    Honest and low-spread FOREX brokers?

I'm surprised no one used the 3 letter acronym "ECN" yet. Comparing ECN brokers (e.g. MB Trading, IB) with non-ECN brokers (e.g. Oanda, IBFX) is apples and oranges. I didn't believe this a couple of years ago but I'm a believer now. Non-ECN brokers are crooks. ECN brokers are the only...

Nuclear war is Kim Jong-il's game plan

I was gonna say. Nukes are definitely big bombs, but the size nukes NK has won't have much effect on the ground when exploded in space. It'd be cool though.

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

Yeah, seems like everybody gets hung up on having "proper" entry setups but it's trade management that makes money. I will say that there are statistical bias techniques that will give you better odds on entry. Ideally you'd like to be right more than half the time. BTW I don't trade...

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

Hmmm, sounds like the old 15 minute opening range breakout setup. Do you have a bias for the setup or just take it either way?

    Oanda policy doenst make sense

OK gotcha. So break up each position into pieces that you might scale out with later. The risk of breaking them up like this is slippage on the individual pieces as the market moves around. Still might be worth it as long as things aren't moving too fast on entry.

Linear regression fit of stock prices

If you want that much data you'll have to buy it.

    Other Forms of Statistical Arbitrage

You're describing a statistical approach to trading based on the probability of price movement based on prior price movement. It's viable but not really arbitrage. But still I'm game, since I'm currently looking at this. I'm a verbal thinker, so I like to start my testing out with an...

    Oanda policy doenst make sense

I really don't understand what you guys are talking about. Say you open one position all at once for 1000 units long. You can scale it out by just using orders of say 250 or 500 or whatever units in the short direction. The original long position is reduced in size when the scale out orders...

Linear regression fit of stock prices

Most standard charting packages let you draw a linear regression line through a groups of price points. If they support this they'll also let you place outer parallel lines at some distance, usually some factor of 1 standard deviation. If you want actual mathematical functions that will...

    Hardest working countries?

While the Japanese seem exceptionally industrious and hard-working, they're actually *very* inefficient in their use of labor. And yes, I've worked with a Japanese company and yes I've been to Japan to visit their facility. For instance, jobs like broom pushing and door greeting are...

    Macintosh's are NOT inherently secure

The only reason Macs are more secure from malware is because malware producers focus on the biggest market. They simply don't care about Macs (or Linux PCs for that matter) because there aren't enough to be worth the bother. More secure? Yes, but not for the reasons the marketing...

    Pyramiding

averaging down is adding to a losing position. why would you do that? it's stupid.
  15. stevegee58

    Pyramiding

This is true if you're not properly managing your trades. Pyramiding, or "reverse scaling" is actually a good way to build a larger position as price moves in your favor. It's far better than traditional "scaling in" where you build a larger position as price moves against you. i.e. adding...

direct statistical trading a "clearly" defined approach by NTW31

I've heard that the interest rate difference or "carry direction" is a fundamental driver of pair price direction. I've had my hands full just studying technicals so I never looked hard at currency fundamentals. Do you find that the carry direction is a significant contributor to your trade...

Arbitrage Pricer ! what strategy is ?

On the Oanda message boards talk periodically comes up about "naughty" trading. This is believed to refer to latency scalping; i.e. taking advantage of differences in quote delivery times among several brokers. Michael Stumm, the main Oanda guy, has occasionally weighed in on this without...

Pulling an all-nigther for this EUR/USD trade

I'm at +12 so far, entered at 3971. I'll sell 1/2 at 4000 and let the rest ride with a breakeven stop.

Pulling an all-nigther for this EUR/USD trade

Damn, I saw this thread and tried to log into Oanda. Wouldn't ya know it I'm having connection problems. Arg.

My first fully automated system: are these statistics sound enough for you?

I don't see slippage accounted for anywhere. That can be significant in a high frequency system.
