Ya know, I thought about that after my original post. The sad fact is that even the most trusted and reputable recyclers end up shipping junked PCs and CRTs to rural China anyway. I'm not sure there's much you can do about it. Asking where they ship things, or researching them on google...

I use TOS and IB. TOS has absolutely killer option modeling features. You can do risk graphs for arbitrarily complex option spreads. You can also play around with what if scenarios like "what if IV goes from 45% to 30%?" You'll see the effect of changes like this on the risk graph. Very nice.

It's the flyback transformer in the CRT. They go bad after a while and start making a racket when the seal on them breaks down. They oscillate at a very high audio frequency and that's what you hear. Yes, it's only a matter of time before they go boom. Just junk 'em and get new LCD monitors.

In IB, go to account management/reports and then "tax forms" One of the selections for output format for the Schedule D worksheet is for Turbotax TXF. You save it somewhere on your computer and then import it into TT. Just did it yesterday lol.

I can't speak for all areas, but in this area elementary school teachers are paid like $70K for a 9 month job and nurses are starting at around $60K. Last I checked, that doesn't qualify for a low paying job.

OK, so I was making a funny. The article was right, though. When we were shopping around for colleges for my daughter a couple of years ago, the gender disparity was striking. Typically it's 60/40 F/M. Some it's 70/30. Where *are* the men going if not to college? That's not a 1.5%...

You have to be careful with your auto-refresh rate. If you're refreshing once per second all day, some web sites will ban your IP address. Also, remember what I said before: Polling a web page only gives the illusion of a real-time feed and polling faster doesn't help.

RSS feeds aren't "real time". They're polled every so often in a news reader or web browser. The default in Firefox is 30 minutes and I've changed that to 5 minutes in my own. Even so, RSS feeds won't achieve what it sounds like you want. AP, Reuters, Bloomberg all have pay news feeds...
