1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

Also, add to these damages the costs of administering an FTT program. It will require many thousands of new government employees with their salaries, benefits and retirement, all further draining taxpayer dollars. This is clearly counter to the needs of government to streamline operations...

Math PhD strategist looking for capital

    UNBELIEVABLE p/l

Believe the skeptic within you. If it appears to be too good to be true, then it probably is. A good way to check is simply to reference individual backtested trades with the appropriate charts. Do the charts verify the trades precisely? And could the trades have been made with the...

It seemed cheaper to eat out than go to the store - even before this

Subway’s sandwiches are naturally high in sodium. Bread, cheese and many sliced meats typically have high sodium content. And most of its sandwiches exceed the federal government’s recommended daily guideline for adults of no more than 1,500 milligrams of salt per day. And the overall...

Can you trade by price action alone?

I listened to most of this webinar out of curiosity. The trick for these self-professed 'gurus' is to first toss out some general platitudes that every trader has heard repeated a thousand times. These opening gambits are also accompanied by the claim that they are doing it out of the...

    Never shorted options before

Very well put. Years ago I asked an experienced options broker to explain to me why my program of selling puts - which I had carefully determined was statistically valid - would not provide a nice income stream. "Because shit happens," he answered. He was right. And when you are...

Repeal of PDT Rule 4210 - Join Me (part 2)

If I recall correctly, it was put in place during the go-go days of momentum trading, when many folks were losing their savings in trading chop shops. I believe the objective was to protect innocents from being prayed upon by sharks, of which there were many at that point in time. I'm...

1/4% Tax on all stock trades pushed in NY Times today

I've always felt that this is one important subject that is always overlooked in FTT discussions. The bureaucracy required to manage such a tax would be huge and very expensive. Thousands more federal employees with benefits and retirement packages.

I gotta tell you - these markets are too insane for me

I like these markets because they play to the strength of my bread-and-butter system, which is flat EOD. But definitely, overnights are deadly. So best to deal with what is, and not what you want it to be.

There are many who like Bill Nighy, and who do not see him as a fool. You may want to spend less time "speaking to the choir" of those who already oppose the FTT, and more time speaking reasonably to those who support it. The audience you want to impress is not here on E.T.

Please enlighten me! Confused, young, lost. Input from all traders welcome!

I agree that Golf holds a lot in common with trading in terms of what's necessary to succeed. Years of practice. Solid discipline. Capital to support yourself through trial and error. And yes, a bit of natural talent and aptitude for the game. Remove any one of those factors, and...

It has been my experience (limited) that a lot of Google's ranking has to do with how long a site has been in existence. Unless you're a real gearhead for SEO, your expectations are probably a bit too high.

Next generation of Americans SOL. Thanks Babyboomers.

Well, truth be told, all of us got together back in the early 70s and lit up a few bongs with Abbey Road playing in the background, and figured how we could screw our kids and get our retirement paid for. Far out. We made it. Now we're all gazillionaires and have to face every morning...
