IB beginner / a few questions together

Everyone looks at the world differently. Trading, not investing, is a business. You will have expense and they have to have value. Live quotes have a lot of value. Making decision based on data that is 15 min behind, can cost you more than $10/month. IMO.

OK, let me qualify. For real trading, pay for live quotes. I have no opinion on paper trading. I also find little value in paper trading except for automated strategies and in general learning to use a new platform.

IB beginner / a few questions together

$10/month to see live quotes while you are trading. A VERY small cost of doing business. Without live quotes, how do you make proper decisions?

Need help - lost big money to prop. firm scam.

When you are a member of a prop firm, you likely agreed to arbitration. I'm not familiar with arbitration rules. I hope you filed a complaint with the SEC too.

Full time traders split of total between separate accounts

Why do you feel the need to separate them into different accounts? Are you concerned about SIPC not covering the account total?

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

I don't think IB charges for cancelled spread orders. And,I believe the Option exchange maker/taker rebates/fees apply on DMA too.

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

Hard to answer which is best. Might not matter. For the most part, very few traders "look" at the COB. It is monitored electronically by Market Makers. If you hope to trade with another customer in the hope of getting a "good" price, you have to guess where the customer flow will go. The...

    Selling ITM S&P Calls

Portfolio Margin is a risk based margin system developed for larger customer accounts where the owner has more experience and can understand the risk associated with more leverage. In a simple example, if you want to purchase $100,000 of IBM, your requirement would be in a Cash account: $100,000...

Option fills on thinkorswim vs IB

If you are trading option spreads, you might get better execution on a platform that sends their orders to the public COB, not retains the order in an internal option dark pools. TWS retains your order in their system until they deem it executable, TD routes to the exchanges. If you want your...

    Selling ITM S&P Calls

I assume you have a PM account because reg-t Margin would be enormous. See attached for selling 48 similar calls for this week. This is the OCC min, not what your broker will require ($556,657). They can require whatever they want above the OCC value. Who is your broker? Reg-T example Position...

    Overnight Option Trading

Since ES options start trading at 6 pm est, I don't see this as a major change. Maybe more of an institutional crossing network for European orders. I wondering if these orders will have their own entry time, then will those orders expire at 8:15am? What happens to GTC orders from the regular...

Hedging the terminal distribution of a spread's PnL?

I'm not sure how to respond to the ITM short fly, since I don't hedge butterflys until they are near expiration. With regard to ITM verticals, I can respond. ITM calls have wider markets and are less liquid than the OTM put spreads they replicate. Also, ITM options have early assignment risk...

I don't have any information on margin requirements in other countries. I'm only talking about US securities and margin account in the US. If you account is oversees, you will have to call your broker for more information. If you have an IB account, when you enter a trade on TWS, you can right...

No. Reg-t margin requires putting up at least 50% of the value of the securities. If you buy $10,000 worth of MSFT, you must have $5000 or more in your account. http://www.investopedia.com/terms/r/regulationt.asp

In general, most Brokers don't check your credit for either cash or general margin accounts. They will always check your credit for a portfolio margin account. Reg-T accounts, in general, have enough collateral from the securities in the account while a PM account is considered to have a higher...
