Oil curve: why so much daily change in shape of forward curve?

    1. In the energy space, the near-term physical delivery dynamics change quite frequently, and the substantial basis changes can be quite dramatic. The fact that most of the futures contracts at ICE and Nymex have physical fungibility issues (storage rack space, barge/tanker availability...

    Developing an edge...

X2 We have been killing the grain spreads this year, and we don't calculate carrying costs and look at COT reports - we trade price models. The traditional grain traders crucify me for that approach, but one of my clients is 7 for 7 this year on the grains. I used to be a commercial energy...

Questions a new trader should ask

When I first read this, I thought it was a sick joke. Nobody's account size could possibly be an edge. Nobody's account size can outlast the market. There are IB's and HFs worth many billions of dollars who have blown out from crap trading positions. To imply that an individual could is of...

crazy christians: jesus changes your dna when you accept him.

It has gotten to the point where I know precisely who starts a thread just by looking at the title. It will always be a very personal, mean-sprited, hateful and downright prejudiced title started by someone touting himself as a progressive and enlightened person.

    trader status?

Please don't solicit tax or legal advice from complete strangers on an internet forum. Pay an accountant who specializes in the investment field $100 or whatever for an hour of his or her time - the expense is tax deductible and well worth it.

How does one become an Energy Trader?

If the shop has an energy concentration or specialty, then yes. Energy, more so than other products IMO, is full of idiosyncracies and local knowledge that can be difficult for an outsider to pick up on once you stray away from the WTI contract.

    Automated Exits

An OTR range-based rule, and reconcile yourself to the notion that you are leaving money on the table as a compromise to the positives associated with an automated system.

Sick kids on Medicaid wait much longer for care

Racist but true. Not just illegals, but our native 50% of the population on the public dole (Democrats all).

Sick kids on Medicaid wait much longer for care

I've used BCBS for twenty years in the Chicago Metro area and have never seen nor heard of such a similar experience. Zero Co-pay. And with a family of five we have had plenty of opportunities to try it out with every specialist in and out of the system.

    Options traders or spread traders.

In my mind, one of the most prominent and useful flexibility features for options is the ability to adjust your position in ways simply not possible with the underlying.

Is IB designed to just feed liquidity to Timber Hill?

Why not just lengthen your holding period modestly and not worry about it. Stand back from the turbulence. Just a thought. No reason to play into the strengths of the automated crowd.

    Percent of retail contracts

Personally, I've never bought into the whole COT and delta footprint and volume analysis theme. Price is king. I get paid on price appreciation or price depreciation. My 2 cents.

    Options traders or spread traders.

With all due respect, I will politely disagree with your basic sentiment. IMO, the more precise basic sentiment is that very few people know how to correctly exploit the added flexibility and dimensionality afforded by options. Much of this is perpetuated by questionable educators and...

    Options traders or spread traders.

Nothing quite like nailing a correct options directional play and collecting for delta, vega, and maybe even theta simultaneously for the same position.

Because fortunately there is so much more flexibility and dimensionality to it than selling covered premium and calling one's self an options expert.

Engineer looking to make a career change into trading (PART II)

Let me state for the record that the OP and myself had a private conversation three weeks ago, the result of which was my determination that he did not have an adequate experience level for me to do him any good. I do not and have not taken virgin traders as clients. As another client stated...
