    Money Mangers Marketing

I don't see why it matters what strategy is used. They are after the returns, correct? They should spend more time calling my auditor and accountant and making sure I am legit. I don't feel comfortable giving them too much detail anyway, lest they show up as a competitor a few months down the...

    Niederhoffer still on top !

He's still selling puts. Looking at his record since 02, his down months coincide with rapid drawdowns in the market. I'm sure he has adjusted his strategy to prevent another blowup, but there's only so much one can do. I write spreads and have exposure as well, as do all option writers to...

    Money Mangers Marketing

As long as the "retailer" is accredited, I see no problem with them. Individuals who take the time to get to know you as a manager will often stick with you during drawdowns when FoFs and institutions are bailing in search of the next big thing. Many HNW retailers play golf with other HNW...

Dude, Where is My Money?: The rogue hedge fund manager strikes again: Kirk Wright

Today's WSJ did another piece on the Wright scandal. Turns out, Wright is black, his two partners were black and many of the more prominent investors were black...not that there's anything wrong with that of course. It seems there are very few blacks in the industry, and now one less with a...

    IB Margin Question

As Sid said... the overnight maintenance margin figure is the magic number. If net liquidating drops below that, stuff starts getting closed.

Nightmare on withdrawing your fund from IB ...continue

I doubt the problem was ever on IB's end. IB needs to be very careful to keep from getting ripped off by these two...and it seems they are doing so. They may be running some kind of scam where they get the wires in limbo and get a second wire sent and try and make off with both wires. Not...

    Spread on RUT

The spread line itself is a data line. The spread, which trades as the spread price, usually appears in purple if it is being actively quoted.

What happened in the Pre-market today?

Pisani did a piece on the drop. He claims the times indicate that the primary drop was from fears of higher interest rates from something that was released just prior to the INTC announcement. INTC fueled it and helped it lower according to him, but wasn't the initial catalyst. Whatever the...

    SIPC limits and IB

Keep in mind also that IB may not have that much in the way of cash in client accounts..at least from what I've read. Maybe I read this wrong, but there was a post a while back in another thread about funds under mgmt at each of the brokers. According to this chart, I thought IB only had about...

    Quadriga Superfund - Managed Futures

I see the story as more of a business tale. Sure, marketing is tightly regulated for managed futures, hedge funds and the like. Now here is a guy who has done nearly everything (in terms of marketing) that we all thought couldn't be done. He is pretty much the only fund out there to that...

    VIX options

This is what I feared. When we trade options on ES/SP, we are roughly trading against the forward value of the SPX, or more precisely the spot value of the ES futures contract. This produces a predictable reaction in hedges and offsetting positions. I think the problem with the VIX futures...

    VIX options

SPAN being portfolio margining. Simply put, under SPAN if you have OTM puts and calls you are charged for a single side. If SPAN is not used, you are charged for both sides even though your risk is generally only to a single side. Since these products are not under SPAN, the broker will just...

    VIX options

As of 11:30, it looks like about 1800 contracts have traded, with most (1655) being the Apr 12.5P. I don't think having strikes at 2.50 intervals is going to cut it as there are entire cycles where the VIX may remain within the 2.50 range. I see the 10/12.5/15 quoted for both sides on the...

    VIX options

If I'm reading this correctly, it appears that the new VIX options will be based on the VIX itself, NOT VIX futures. I think this is a significant difference if it is true. Are you guys reading this the same way?

ER2 quotes at lower strikes seem to be working fine today.

    ER2 no quotes

Do you have IB? I just tried throwing some small orders out for puts that were not quoted and all the orders froze and were never displayed or made active. I am too busy to call them at the moment...wondering if this is an IB issue or exchange issue???

    ER2 no quotes

Something is amiss. I look at these every day and there are normally MMs at these levels, or at least a few stray orders. The spread may be $5, but someone is nearly always there. There may be a glitch somewhere.
