S&P500 Options expiring on last trading day of the month

I've often wondered if it's really true that exp week is any more volatile than the rest of the month, or if maybe we are just more sensitive to it because we deal in these products. My first reaction would be that it may mute volatility more since there are twice as many expirations. It...

S&P500 Options expiring on last trading day of the month

The lone MM appears to have left for lunch...no quotes now. As for your question - I expect to use both ES and EW in the same manner. Assignment is never really a concern for me.

S&P500 Options expiring on last trading day of the month

It's been a slow progression. Only a few quotes the first hour, then more but $7 - $8 spreads. Now we're down to $4 spreads but only 10 to a side. I expect the spreads to tighten as other MMs come in. Hopefully the CME has other MMs lined up to participate. I would think everyone running...

How do those of us build a track record, when we change systems so often?

You don't need to just trade one of anything. Their ability to categorize you helps them understand and compare your performance and for them to have realistic expectations, especially as it relates to their overall allocations. Adapting to changing market conditions is important. Making...

    Options/Futures Contracts Limitation

It's tough to find any extensive info on these types of deals, since they are done with larger players and tend to be private and exclusive transactions. Many of the bulge bracket firms that deal in these products have many clients that are looking for the same things. In your example, the...

    SPY Purchase

Looking back now, I see a trade at that exact time on the 17th for 200,000 that was "inserted". This could have been a late reported block, although the SPY never traded that high on that day. I suspect it was a typo that was later corrected to reflect a more accurate price.

Can I do it with IB?

Those fast quotes are often used to fill spread orders. If someone wants a vertical for a set amount and has that order on the book, the computer will monitor both legs and fill him when the conditions are met. So the quotes are real and the trades are really happening for the most part...

S&P500 Options expiring on last trading day of the month

I predict they will have solid volume very quickly. Since the terms are the same as the mid month contract, there's no educational process to endure. Much of the existing volume is from CTA/CPO firms and other institutions who are hedging. Since everyone reports monthly, it makes sense to use...

S&P500 Options expiring on last trading day of the month

I have to say I'm excited about the prospects. Now we will never have a situation where there's more than 17 calendar days til expiration. Having these interim contracts increases hedging and rolling opportunities dramatically.

Best way to establish CTA track record?

Your return is a combination of the return of all of your customers accounts. You will find that you may have different fee structures for different clients and this causes some clients to realize more or less than the fund reports. I would suggest actually starting the fund and running it...

    Black Monday

...and where is the demand? Gold is a different animal. Copper? Have we seen a big spike in Copper demand? Is there even any new anticipation that anyone will need THAT much more copper?

    Black Monday

BB has turned this into a data watching game. The market will likely now place more emphasis on the 8:30 releases and react accordingly. We're going nowhere today. Waiting for data tomorrow.

    SPX Credit Spread Trader

Being cash settled has nothing to do with 60/40 treatment. The 2000 Commodity Futures Modernization Act provided 60/40 treatment for certain commodity regulated products, regardless of time held. Section 1256 of the IRS code further delineates those products which are eligible. While broad...

I doubt it requires another subscription. I suspect we'll get quotes when the CME starts trading them.

I see no press material from the CME as of yet, but IB has added the new contracts. Add "ES" to a new line in the TWS, then select Fut Opt June 2006 or later. When the window pops up, there is a new section in the lower left called "Trading Class". The symbol for end of month expiry is EW.

    Trader Monthly magazine ?

I think the place of Trader Monthly is to report on those who are past the stage of wanting to improve in that way. Of course everyone is always looking to improve, but at some level you just don't get much from mags and books beyond the occassional interesting tidbit. It seems to be the first...

    Can't catch a break ....

I would suggest setting a target before putting it on and sticking to it. Take the emotions of the moment out of it. If it's a double you want, put the limit order out there as soon as you get the position on and get first in line. Then don't fret when it goes to 5X, because many will go back...

    Unethical Conduct by IB

I have significant experience with pink orders as well. I will almost always call immediately and IB will call the exchange and "find it". This is almost always successful, but sometimes you just have to wait til the overnight to see if you have a position or not. The statement "manage your...

    IB developers: are you idiots?

You are sad. There is thinking in that software that is far beyond your comprehension. You sound like the type who always has someone else to blame for trades going against you. If only you weren't forced to use IB, things would be so much better... if only....
