    Emotion FREE Trading

All of the most positive and powerful thinking you can summon won't cause a trade to go your way if the market has something else in mind. Having said that, the PDF is one of the best pieces I've read on the overall subject of discipline, and it sure speaks directly to many of the problems...

    Will Ford ever break even?

Q: What time is it when a Ford passes another Ford? A: Tin past Tin. (That was the first joke I ever heard, told to me by my uncle who worked for Ford.) Actually, Ford is producing some very high quality vehicles at present. They'll come out of this. Disclaimer: Long at 3

Strategy backtests well for ES but not for other index futures

Why should it? For what reason do you think an index of 30 stocks (YM) is going to move perfectly in sync with a index of 500 (ES) or 2000 (TF) or 100 (NQ)? Each has its own personality and characteristics. Which is a good thing as it opens up more possibilities.

    Questioning backtest results

Looks pretty good, but you need to add more for the expense of commissions and slippage. I suggest at least $10 per side per contract. $20 per trade, as a minumum. This will bring your win/loss closer to 1/1, but with 66% profitable you will be in business.

    ponzi scheme?

In the case of a website offer like yours, it is definitely "Presumed guilty until proven otherwise." You are making an outlandish claim of roughly 42% annual investment gains for the LIFE of the subscriber. (Interesting that these claims vary depending on the Craigslist site you have...

    Question about taking profits:

That's a very good question. And one reason why many traders gravitate toward index futures. But if you are determined to trade equities, one way to answer the question is - what makes sense in terms of your strategy? As a simple example, if you are into buying pullbacks in can make some...

How can a trader trade for hedge fund without giving away strategy?

Easier than you think. Join the United Auto Workers. I've seriously been considering the advantages for a UTW...United Trading Workers. In the current environment, I'm confident that members would be paid not to trade. Volatility would decrease and short sales would no longer be a...

What's it really like on Main St, USA now?

And also here in Arizona. Vacant retail shops and offices everywhere. Mortgage brokers, title companies, builders, contractors, designers, thousands out of work. Those who say they aren't seeing evidence of a recession are wearing blinders. Malls have traffic, but they are the...

    A question for the experienced

IMO, it's a roll of the dice. I wouldn't take that bet unless you have funny-money to throw away, because we have no idea how deep this recession is going to be. The auto makers could get 100 billion in loans, but there is no guarantee they will make it in any event, given their past...

    Have you done 10,000 hours?

I'm gratified to see some experienced traders posting on a thread for a change. There are those few fortunate outliers who have the skills, luck and resources to make it to the promised land sooner. But for the average slob trader like me who has been able to stick with it and take the...

    Have you done 10,000 hours?

WSJ today reviews Malcolm Gladwell and his new book "Outliers". He's quoted as saying that in his studies of experts in a variety of fields, concentrated study of at least 10,000 hours is required to begin to gain mastery. Something to keep in mind as your trading progresses.

    East Coast vs. West Coast

Based on my own experience, you should go to school where you intend to remain, whichever coast that is. I'd wanted to spend my life on the West Coast, but decided to go to school on the East Coast with the intention of returning west. But it never happened. I got involved in internships...
