TradeStation - give me the real picture

Then possibly you can answer a couple questions, since I can't get a response from the folks at TS. 1. Can TS, in backtesting and trading, access a second instrument/symbol as part of a trading rule? For example, let's say I am backtesting/trading ES and want to access ER2 and include that...

    DTN IQ Ripoff

If you are currently with DTN IQ, or are considering them, be aware of their cancellation policy. They have a 15 day cancellation. This is bad enough. But what is a blatant ripoff of traders is that if you don't cancel 15 days before the end of the current month, they will bill you for...

TradeStation - give me the real picture

I wrote 2 emails to TradeStation this week, telling them that I'm considering moving some money to use their auto-trading platform. I asked 3 questions regarding their platform and data feed that I needed answered to determine if my system was appropriate for TS. I gave them my return...

Who profits when retail traders lose?

Well said. ANY business comes with fixed costs. Rent, taxes, utilities, salaries, security, etc. etc. The job of the business owner (trader) is to overcome those costs and show a profit. Welcome to the real world.

    Career traders.....LLC?

These are the issues I can comment on from personal experience: 1. If you trade regularly and have nothing to hide, you have no fear of the IRS. An LLC provides no protection. 2. You can deduct anything as a trader that you can deduct with an LLC. 3. When you file as a trader...

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

You're ignoring the fact that your stop loss remains the same. You need to develop your system in a backtesting environment and view the results yourself.

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

This isn't brain surgery here. A 1:1 risk/reward ratio assumes that your stop is equal to your profit target. 1:1 If you take profits early but let your losses run to the stop, you are are not trading the system and you'll skew your results. If your 'edge' in the system is a 60-65% win...

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

If your system is 1:1 risk reward, then taking profits early is not trading your system. You will essentially be letting your losers run to the stop, but pulling your winners early. You won't last long playing that game.

    Obama the Socialist

Thanks for the link. My take-away from that article is plainly that Obama simply has no clue. We get to look forward to a trainee in the White House. Note here that I was the first to coin the phrase, the "Waffle House". Which it will become. Nary a decision will be made without a...

    Obama the Socialist

Well, the problem is, of course, that George Bush was not only a disaster for the country, he was a disaster for the Republican Party. So the swing to the left now is going to be a major one. Obama in the White House with a Democratic house and senate. God help us. Where is Jimmy...

    65% win ratio with 1:1 risk/reward?

Difficult, but certainly not impossible. If the point of your post is to get some confirmation that 65% is doable with a 1:1 ratio, then yes, it is. Typically numbers like that would indicate that you have an equal target and stop, and that you've got a little edge in your entry...

    Obama the Socialist

Everything coming from him lately speaks to a clear socialist agenda. Redistribution of wealth. Government interference in free markets. High taxes on successful entrepreneurs AND their businesses. Increased capital gains taxes. Look out below. Dow at 9500 next year.

Can you collect unemployment while trading?

Oh, baloney, income is not determined by the IRS, and even the IRS doesn't know how to classify income from trading. If the IRS classified trading as "earned income", then why is it that every year I file as a "securities trader" and pay no social security or self-employment tax? It's...

Can you collect unemployment while trading?

Last I heard, you don't apply for unemployment in Washington. And last I read, the writers of the constitution would have a big problem with your statement.

Can you collect unemployment while trading?

Income from trading/investments is not considered "earned income" for purposes of taxes, social security, unemployment, etc. etc.

    Beginner - questions

Sounds like you've been watching late night infomercials. You will not make money as an intraday retail trader in Forex. The market rewards those with patience who know how to follow a trend and aren't afraid to exit when they are wrong.

    Managing OPM

You are into a number of issues that require you to consult with a good securities attorney. Coming here for advice won't help. I suggest you do that before you take on any new money. You can easily get yourself in a world of hurt if things aren't done properly. You are not at the point...
