HowardCohodas Index Options Credit Spread Trading Journal

Hey Howard, one of the rules I'm trying to tease out of your writings is when you put on the other credit spread that makes the iron condor. It seems to me that if you can find a put credit spread that meets your entry criteria that there would usually be a corresponding call credit spread...

    Climb Mount Washington

Believe it or not, Mt Washington in the winter is among the most inhospitable places on Earth. The jet stream can actually brush the top in winter, producing 150 mph winds at -30F. Great way to end it all, if that's what you were planning. You'd be dead and frozen solid in 30 minutes. :D

Why do Americans go to expensive lib art schools?

One reason people go to expensive liberal arts schools is that's all they can get into. For instance my daughter is a nursing student and is in that situation. She couldn't get into any of the state schools or even the community college due to fierce competition for the limited slots at...

portfoio margin for an IRA account with IB

Weeeeeeeeel, IB does have a margin IRA: http://individuals.interactivebrokers.com/en/p.php?f=accountConfig&p=i&ib_entity=llc It's margin in the sense that you can daytrade, have option spreads, etc. but there are restrictions to keep it legal for the IRS.

    Formula to gauge success probability?

The ThinkOrSwim platform has very nice built-in calculators for probability of expiring in the money and probability of touching a strike price. You can add these as columns in a custom view of any option chain and display them in real time.

New SLAVERY in America. 25 cents/minute??????

I did read it again. In 1 hour she made $15. Anyway, it's not slavery since it's not involuntary servitude. It's just a different flavor of piece work which is not illegal for contractors AFAIK.

HowardCohodas Index Options Credit Spread Trading Journal

Howard, what's your trigger for actually entering a trade? I assume you're not just simply entering credit spreads every day that have a PoT of <20% and some minimum credit. Maybe you're using some TA on the underlying?

The "Individual Implied Volatility" and "Fixed Volatility Per Expiration Date" settings do indeed produce significantly different PoT readings. I think "Individual Implied Volatility" is the default.

HowardCohodas Index Options Credit Spread Trading Journal

Howard, my last post got me wondering. When you figure out candidate trades are you looking for a certain %/day return? In other words, do you take the % return and divide by the days left to expiry and look for a certain minimum % return per day? Obviously this is in addition to the PoT.

HowardCohodas Index Options Credit Spread Trading Journal

At the time of the original discussion, OEX 550/555 puts had mid quotes of 0.625 and 0.775 respectively. If you'd filled at these mids, the credit spread would have given a credit of 0.15. The max risk (i.e. margin used) of the credit spread is 555-550-0.15=4.85 per contract (this is a basic...
