BitCoin - Intellectual Fraud or a Stunning Idea??

In general the litany of standard criticisms of BTC fall under the the umbrella of FUD.

BitCoin - Intellectual Fraud or a Stunning Idea??

A lot of money laundering in $20 and $100 greenbacks.

    C

Even the Black Scholes example I gave doesn't actually accelerate the calculation of a single option. What it gives you is the ability to simultaneously calculate a whole option chain all at once. It just depends on what you're trying to do.

    C

I've seen open source OpenCL code for Black Scholes plus Quantlib seems to have OpenCL extenstions as well. There are a number of financial algorithms that lend themselves to GPU acceleration.

    C

GPUs (Cuda- or OpenCL-based) aren't just plug 'n' go supercomputers. They only shine in applications where you're accelerating an algorithm that lends itself to parallelism. For example, Bitcoin mining and password cracking come to mind.

Programmer needed: Experience with HFT and Co-locationserver installation/integration

It's pointless and you won't learn a thing. It's the kind of thread where everyone argues how the one they use is clearly the best and all others suck.

Programmer needed: Experience with HFT and Co-locationserver installation/integration

There's already a thread for this discussion. If I knew C# I'd give the man what he wants.

BitCoin - Intellectual Fraud or a Stunning Idea??

You're missing the point. The purpose of BTC isn't to be exchanged for USD or EUR. It's for buying and selling goods and services directly. Yes, it's not there yet. But as has been pointed out already, it's the wild west. A major financial crisis (bigger than the US bank bailout, bigger...

    Bitcoin thread anyone?

I only mine, just banking as much BTC and LTC as I can like a sort of long term investment that costs almost nothing to acquire.

    Bitcoin thread anyone?

It's already busted hard once. That said, maybe it's possible that the current BTC/USD valuation reflects that the emperor (i.e. the USD) has no clothes.

    Bitcoin thread anyone?

I just switched from mining BTC to mining LTC last week with my old GPU rig. Back to making money again!

    C

Nope, no religious devotion here. Simply a pragmatic acceptance that it's my most familiar language and I can work fastest in it. If I were a zealot I'd be trying to convince everyone that C is the best language and all others are blasphemies. That couldn't be further from the truth.

    C

You clearly missed the point of my Beta/VHS metaphor. Deciding which technological solution is "better" depends on what one's goals are. Beta was technically "better" than VHS, but VHS ended up overwhelming Beta because VHS was "better" from a business standpoint. C is a very old language with...

    C

Why? Because I can code it much more quickly in C because it's the language I use in my day job (well, C++ really). Spending time learning the latest new whiz-bangy languages is counter-productive for me. I'd much rather work directly on projects in the language I'm most familiar with...

John Carter :Mastering the Trade, Second Edition:

The first edition of this book was probably the last book on trading I ever bought. It wasn't because it was a great book but because I realized that reading books wasn't improving my trading. I simply needed to practice and learn more self discipline.

Self Defense Firearms And Hearing Protection

Gun owners aren't all alike. I live in the country and pretty much everyone has a rifle and shotgun. No AK-47s, no AR-15s (at least not many). Where I live owning a few useful firearms seems prudent and no one makes a big deal about it.

    What's wrong with gay marriage?

I say let 'em pay the marriage penalty on their taxes like the rest of us. Right now they mostly live like shacked-up DINKs.

Self Defense Firearms And Hearing Protection

Soldiers don't use any hearing protection in live combat and home defense is no different. You're fighting for your life. You want maximum situational awareness without messing around. I have tinitus right now and it's slightly annoying but not as bad as being dead. (I suspect I got the...

Self Defense Firearms And Hearing Protection

If I had to exchange hearing loss for saving my life I'd consider it worth it. Anyway, home-made suppressors are easy and cheap to make. Just keep yer yap shut about it.
