    Excel Automation

You are welcome ! See... I told you it could be done. Excel is very efficient with ARRAY processing, but not so for cell-by-cell processing. In fact, it's quite inefficient.

    IQ feed vs. IB feed...

How did you determine this ? In other words, how can you say it's accurate, yet the tick count is not "true" ? Plus, how can the 5 seconds "lag" have an effect on your trading system assuming your average time-in-trade is at least 1 minute ?

    IQ feed vs. IB feed...

This has been a great thread...thanks to all that have contributed. This data feed area is certainly one where there has been few reviews and much vendor hype....a recipe for disaster for technical or systematic traders !

    Excel Automation

Yes, that will help albeit Excel 2003 is not optimized to take advantage of multiple core CPUs....however, I do believe Excel 2007 has been changed to support multicore. Unfortunately, Excel 2007 suffers in performance overall compared to Excel 2003 due to the increased size of the worksheet and...

On second thought, I agree. Twas a bad guess on my part. No question, Jones fits the part much more closely.

    Recommended Programming Language for Finance

Lots of B.S. in this thread...everyone knows it's "nothin but dot-net" right now. C# is "dah bomb"...just got a notice from a Quant recruiter looking for FIX and C#/Dot-net skills...starting salary: $200k + bonus. Java is dying a horrible death due to poor QA and the company backing it is...

Deciding on a Backtesting and Trading Platform

I think he forgot the commas...see above. Trend following and break-out are TWO separate systems. IOW : Trend-following != Breakout That being said, I'd really like to hear about the success (or more likely failure) of pattern-based systems. I saw one technical trader spend years...

John Henry of course. Appears the therapy only worked temporarily, as up until recently, funds managed by Henry performed terribly....they were always on the "worst performers" list in Futures Magazine....month after month.

    IQ feed vs. IB feed...

It's been almost 3 months now and counting.....they are STILL testing. No new subscribers permitted. They are looking very shaky moving forward.

    Ninja Trader (ask)

Therein lies one of the issues with NT.....it hugely dependent on "right click for more options". It's not that bad once you get used to it.

    Software development cost?

I say baloney.....Excel only breaks-down when there are dozens of symbols that need to be tracked in realtime....or sub-second scalping is the strategy. As you can see: ALWAYS GET SECOND OPINIONS. OEC uses DDE in their Excel implementation....it's not as good as RTD, but it's usable unless...

Is anyone getting sick of the Olympics already?

Great POST....I TRULY AGREE. The mystique is gone.... only bright spot is the incredible story of Dara Torres in Swimming...beating girls 20 YEARS younger. Truly, this is THE STORY for America in the Olympics. Wow.

Who buys the crap on trader monthly?

Well...I read Tim's book....and it was quite UN-revealing....almost DECEIVING. However, in viewing his posts on this forum, the guy's a true con. Again and again, I kept asking Tim why he blew that huge wad on that internet transaction company....especially AFTER all of the year 2000 blow-ups...

Who buys the crap on trader monthly?

Uh...Eric Bolling comes to mind...he does NOT live in Chicago...and he makes at least $5 mill per year. There are many like him....too bad you are not one of "them". They all read "Trader Magazine".

    Nice job TradeStation!

Bill and Ralph are selling the business....what's wrong with that ? They made their money...now go make yours. BTW: they could care less about you whiners.

Is Assent LLC a good firm?

That's so obvious....even with techies asking only $30/hr, they can't afford to hire one to document their API.
  17. syswizard

Is Assent LLC a good firm?

That's effectively a "lock-out" period...i.e. they don't want "investors" pulling their money out quickly at a moment's notice. I don't believe there is an SEC statute to back that policy however....so it is at their discretion. On the other point, you are effectively becoming a partner in...

To The users of the Genesis API

Huh ? Interactive Brokers and ThinkorSwim provide separate test or "sim" id's for their API developers. Test trades can be placed in the "real" market (live data) and filled as if they were real ones.

Genesis' GTAPIB has bugs -- Does anyone actually use this thing?

Two things: 1) what is the difference between the two libraries anyway ? IOW why use the GTAPIB in the first place ? 2) has anyone gotten STOP orders to work inconjunction with placing bracket orders via their API ? Last I heard was that it doesn't work...it returns an error message.
  20. syswizard

    This happened to anyone

This should not have occurred. SIM mode should have been clearly identified on the screen somewhere. With Thinkorswim's platform, it's clearly identified. Best to wait for Ninja 7.0 release.
