    Funds offseting positions

I only trade spreads, and I rolled my July stuff on June 20 in order to avoid getting caught in the maelstrom. Rolls are totally unpredictable barring inside information on a big commercial not wanting to make or take delivery at the 11th hour... Anyone predicting otherwise should be drug...

Can one really successfully trade on fundamentals?

There is a group of floor grain spread traders who blew out in May. Cost of carry basis models. Ex-commercial guys. One of them posted here frequently. Anyone who seriously believes that the electronic markets have not priced in some important piece of fundamental information is...

    Technical Analysis = CRAP

Curious, has anyone been able to take whatever gems of technical analysis goodness has been sprinkled upon us during this odyssey of a thread and made any money from it ? If it takes 139 pages to highjack a thread and explain one's trading model ...

Can one really successfully trade on fundamentals?

Spreads, yes I agree. Fundamentals, bullshit. I took on a client in February who was in the S&P Pit. He is now 7 for 7 in the grain spreads. All of my clients are killing in the grains. I have another client who went live on March 01, 2011 with a $25K account. He has returned 45% net...

    Please judge my performance

I have another client who went live on April 01, 2011. Same scenario, returned 10% net all expenses as of Friday June 24. And that includes an impulsive scalping debacle which earned my wrath because he deviated from his trading plan. Swing trading futures spreads. Of course, I...

    Please judge my performance

As a comparison, I have a client who went live on March 01, 2011 with a $25K account. He has returned 45% net on that as of yesterday. In four months, on a net basis, he has over $36K in his account. Advantage Futures clearing, CTS front end, eSignal running my models, those expenses...

OK, you want to compare hard metrics. How much capital are you using ? What intraday performance margin are you using to generate that return. How much capital do you have in your account and what size are you trading and what frequency do you trade. Do you know how to calculate a Sharpe Ratio ?

    The 98% Who Fail

Snake, your point is spot one... comparing futures returns to equity returns is not reasonable. Having said that, you would be shocked (pleasantly surprised) at how modest the max drawdowns are with a well-designed futures spread trading strategy. Food for thought.

A futures prop firm that backs traders completely will want you to do that in two weeks... reason being, if you are trading futures you will need to be able to scale your strategy and use the leverage provided. The Chicago prop model does not accept employee capital (they can't by CME rules)...

(WARNING) I'm revealing a dirty secret about trading..

If trading was all about math, then LTCM and every other quant firm that has blown up would still be in business. And every mathematician and engineer would be a trader. And that is clearly not the case. Your opinion lacks merit and facts.

Is IB designed to just feed liquidity to Timber Hill?

This is a very destructive and counter-productive obsession with trying to control something for which you cannot. I have had a GS stock account and switched it to an IB Pro account. IB was better because they made more shares available to borrow short. If you have a strategy that you...

Brent Vs WTI type of traders

The limited and distorted fungibility aspect of each contract makes them essentially a de facto spec vehicle. Securing Brent North Sea offloading or WTI rack space at Cushing appears to require a sprinkling of pixie dust from a leprechaun.
