% ppl who earn >$1 million cumulative from trading over a lifetime?

I used it in the context below. Most people don't consider a PhD to a be terminal degree. It's odd that that article you cite above uses that language. If you don't mind me asking, what was your PhD in? So in the context below, one of the poster(@treeman) has a terminal masters. "While most...

% ppl who earn >$1 million cumulative from trading over a lifetime?

Actually it's quite the opposite. Most PhD programs take candidates who has completed their BS/BA and now applying to the PhD program. It's NOT necessary to have a MS/MA before entering a PhD program. And having a masters does not necessarily increase your chance of admission either. For those...

How would you take advantage of this?

I noticed on IB that one particular mini futures contract price is lower than the full contract? Normally they are identical price quotes. But lately they are off by a bit. Can one arbitrage that? Buy N number of mini-contracts and sell short the big contract?

@TraderEX Thanks for your thoughtful and detailed response. I'm NOT selfish and I'm doing the sensible thing as I've said earlier. I got the offer and waiting for the paperwork and administrative stuff to clear then start. I figure with my job total comp $150K-$200K (depending on bonuses and...

Cryptocurrency investors are crushed by losses of 70%. Inevitable but miserable.

Ironically, crypto was the ONLY asset class that I made a decent amount of money in 2018. I got in and got out. Thanks to my trader instincts(from trading futures) I got out when it started coming back down from the highs. I should have shorted it and held. hehe. But I feel very fortunate...

% winning trades, avg profit, avg win, avg loss stats at IB. Is there a way to see this?

Thanks for pointing this out. Didn't know that IB has that. Why it doesn't have all the stats I want, it still has some stuff I like.

% winning trades, avg profit, avg win, avg loss stats at IB. Is there a way to see this?

Yes,there are. There are free and paid trade analytics vendors. Fundseeder is free. Has the usual stats. But I wished it would drill down more. Trademetria is paid. I'm testing out this. They are not a 100% good. They don't know how to deal with stock splits well. You have to do the...

I'm closing in on a job offer. I will focus on that. While my trading is getting better, there's too much stress to make money from the market every single day. Plus pressure from bills, etc. The less money pressure one has the better and more calm one will be with trading. Maybe I'll do one...

IB auto liquidate certain futures contracts

I know NG is physically settled. But I'm still surprised that they would just autoliquidated me. I figure if today was the last trading date then fine. At least let the trading day ends before autoliquidating me?! Luckily it was a small loss. But still annoying...

it could be. But not likely given NG margins are pretty low.

IB auto liquidate certain futures contracts

Hey guys, I noticed this morning that IB autoliquidated my NG Sept '18 contract since today is last trading date. However, I thought they would wait til the close to do that. They just autoliquidated. Had they let me handle til the close of the market I would be up nicely. Instead I didn't...

    Intraday does not make sense.

I didn't say it was NOT possible. I said it's usually done by automated bots that can trade for ticks really well.

    Intraday does not make sense.

While I agreed that long-term trading/investing can provide superior returns and risk adjusted returns, it does NOT preclude the possibility of intraday trading profits. Market makers, by definition, trade intraday. Scalpers especially automated bots trade intraday profitably. And even manual...

How do you deal with different timeframe signals? I'm usually an intraday swing and scalper. But lately I've been doing some overnights and multi-day holds, which has enabled me to generate profits that are multiples of my normal daytrades. Today my intraday my signals would say to short. But...

Thanks for the sage advice and vote of confidence! It doesn't look impossible to me now. It's all about edge+ leverage ==> scale. Trading is a very scalable biz. The nice thing about scalable biz is once you have an edge you just have to leverage it up and scale it up. I'm hoping in the next...

I agreed. I'm on the improving trajectory in my trading. I'm not at master level yet. But I can generate a $1K here and there and occasionally multiple thousands in a trade. But I want the multiple thousands a day to be the norm. If I go Path 3, then my family will feel more secured. And I can...

You've made many good points. Very well thought out. All of what you've said is true. I'm still debating the merits of each path and weighing the options. ======================== Path 1: Go back to Corporate America ======================== Pros: $150K-$200K, benefits, insurances, bonuses, and...

Just closed out. $1400 on one lot! Overnight. Very little stress. I think swing trading would need a lot more patience(especially if it's not trending). But overnight is fine especially if you got in at a good price and just ride the trend. Of course, if you got in and it goes down then get out...
