    Calendars vs. Butterflies

I believe atticus was referring to his own trades as documented in one of his journals, not in general.

a new exchange for the hft challenged

I'm not sure what you're doing. I get filled all the time without noticeable delay in stocks and options.

a new exchange for the hft challenged

Oh, I don't know. I'm Libertarian-leaning and would rather see more competition in the exchange arena than more government regulation.

How do I protect my U.S. dollars to be sent to Canada ?

I was referring to a spot Forex broker like Oanda. If you're American you can open an account with 50:1 leverage. So if you want to hedge $50,000 you would just deposit $1000 in the Oanda account and go short USDCAD with it. Keep in mind you'd pay about $5 in spread cost and you'd pay the...

    Overtrading and the other thing

That's up to the individual, as is the system traded. Undertrading implies you're not taking every entry and exit signal; you're applying discretionary filtering. If you determined that certain filters benefit your system then they'd be part of the system, right? Why filter on the fly...

    Overtrading and the other thing

Each time you get an entry signal, add to an existing position. i.e. add to winners (Obviously my suggestions have a trend following bias)

    Overtrading and the other thing

    1) Have a system that specifies conditions where entry and exit signals occur (time and price) 2) Take only your system's entry and exit signals 3) Use small position size on each entry and pyramid into larger positions You can only overtrade in frequency if you have no system (i.e. totally...

Stevegee58's Option Trades: Road to Consistency

I was able to roll the put side of the July NDX IV down from 2725/2700 to 2575/2550. Bought some breathing room for the next 3 weeks. I had mentioned buying a cheap OTM put as a hedge on the down side but never did it. When the market was moving back up I no longer felt the need to "do...

    Java vs C++ or C#

I wasn't aware it was a battle. I use the language that: 1) I'm most familiar with 2) Meets my performance requirements 3) Has readily available API support for my broker 4) Has a large open source code base for my convenience Several languages meet criteria 3 and 4. Criteria 1 and 2...

How do I protect my U.S. dollars to be sent to Canada ?

Just open a spot FX account at one of the buckets. If you're a Canadian resident maybe you could even open one with the leverage not available in the US (i.e. 400:1) Whatever amount of CAD you're long in your banking and trading accounts, just offset it with an equal opposite position in...

    Bitcoin thread anyone?

The end of what? Bitcoin? The louder the government denounces and restricts BTC the more interested the average person will be in it. $1000/BTC here we come. They can't stop it, exactly right.

IB API in Excel and option chains

There's no way to find what valid strikes exist through the API, in other words there's not list you can download first from IB. I just get the strike list programmatically from a web-based source.
