What information does Technical analysis tell you ?

My technical analysis tells me a lot. Of course - my TA might not be the same as you're using - especially if you're only using a chart.

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Yesterday had the smallest RTH range since the 28th of December 2017. I expect volatility to pick up again next year. It seems like most people are expecting 2020 to be volatile. What if it won't be?

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Which f**king trend? Even with a 90 + % win rate you can blow your account if you take that one big loss or trade without a stop. If you bought the dip at the end of last year and continued buying it with leverage as a day trader, you probably would have blown your account and be broke by the...

    Start at 20 retire at 30 - FIRE/Robinhood

Been a good decade for FIRE. I have a friend who started saving/investing in the stock market in 2010 and he's become considerably more wealthy doing so, although he's a long way from retirement still. He also thinks he's an investment guru thanks to his handsome returns (slightly above the market).

Took out a loan to transition to full-time trading. Now 27 years old.

Rather buy an expensive bottle of wine or pay down your loan instead of just throwing it away.

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

BINGO BANGO BONGO! The euphoria and madness continues... On December 3rd I wrote: 9 trading days later we're almost here. 50 Points from here is a measly is an easy 1,56 % gain. At this rate, the market does that easily in a day or two. I'm calling it. 3250 by year end. Probably as soon as...

What do you think when you see a famous trader now selling courses & mentorship plans?

I can understand and relate to the need to do something else and find some kind of meaning beyond trading. For some people - I'm sure writing a book is a goal in itself. But if you're actually selling mentorships and selling workshops for a relatively small amount of money, you're spending...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Nailed the ATHs and the positive close, but my technical model does not accurately track the euphoria/hysteria we're currently experiencing. I firmly belive that news usually accelerate/amplify market movements; not create them. So this would have been the outcome regardless of the trade deal...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

With today's intraday high at 3176,28 - SPX is up 26,70 % on the year. Certainly it seems like 3200 is in the cards by year end. Without looking up my 'stuff' right now - the weekly prediction made for this week (bullish) suggested continued upside in the week after as well. As @Buy1Sell2...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Euphoria! 38,75 points / + 1,14 % in 40 minutes. It won't last forever, but currently 'this' is where we're at.

    Books on Options Trading

Thanks, ironchef. I may order both then, but will probably follow your advice and start with Hull. FWIW, I'm mostly interested in options on indices at the moment and seeing if I can use options to exploit my understanding/predictions of the index (SPX) beyond directional day trading. Currently...

    Books on Options Trading

Hi, Bumping an old thread. Did you finish Hull? How does it compares to Lawrence McMillan's book? I was recommended McMillan's book by another member here and see that it's getting really great reviews. At the same time - I've always had my eyes on Hull for learning options. Of course -...

What is the best software for this problem?

If you're willing to experiment and try to get it done cheaply, you could put up an offer on UpWork. I've had some luck there myself, but as often is the case, one needs to pay up if one wants stellar work/quality. Might even be that someone knows about something that suits your requirements...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Were you trading in 2017 or other low volatility periods? It'd be wise to remember that we've had longer periods in the past where the average daily RTH range was at 10,00 points. I think ES is still excellent day trading wise. If I recall correctly (not at my trading computer now)...

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

3160 some time this week sounds correct to me. Might have the week low in now. Pretty much expecting this to be a smaller range week where not much will happen. The joker is of course tomorrow. But will anything happen that the market has not already digested?

    ES Journal - 2019/2020

Should be an interesting week ahead of us. My weekly model strongly indicates we'll print new ATHs in the coming week, but also indicates limited upside and a positive close not much above Friday's Close (3146) with a slight chance we'll dip slightly into the red. That's the technical...

Charting software with volume based candlesticks

What software does NOT have volume bars in 2019? Try IQ Feed and Ninjatrader. You can still use IB.

What is the best software for this problem?

Sounds interesting. Is it possible that what you want to do is so specific/tailored to your own needs that you should consider creating something from scratch to accomplish this? Not sure what budget you have, but if you have deep pockets, maybe pay someone to code this for you. Anyway...

    Trading the Indices on Fundamentals

Did you ever read the James B. Rogers, Jr. interview in Market Wizards? I think you would have enjoyed that one. It seems to gel well with your style and your views, except that his holding periods seems to generally be far longer.
