Making $200-$400 a day (average), realistic goal for a new trader to grow into?

You know what's interesting about this thread you quoted as a reason to NOT Trade? Now, if I was Bryan reading that, I would see A TON OF POTENTIAL. Either the glass is half full or half empty, right? :D That same thread could read - by staying disciplined, I am a multi-millionaire...

Making $200-$400 a day (average), realistic goal for a new trader to grow into?

Bryan - here is a prime example of what could happen to you if you lose your money, so be careful. You could become bitter and post on message boards telling people the markets are rigged and there's no way to make money trading them. There is one constant here on ET - misery loves company...

Making $200-$400 a day (average), realistic goal for a new trader to grow into?

Bryan - few things from your recent post - $10k is not a lot, so be prepared for some wild swing with that, esp if you go into futures and/or forex. Start small regardless of what you chose to trade. Don't worry so much about the day-to-day P&L, just place some live trades (when you are ready)...

Making $200-$400 a day (average), realistic goal for a new trader to grow into?

bryan - I think you have a leg up being a business owner. I am biased b/c I ran a successful stock brokerage business before going into full-time trading. With that being said, you realize that this, like any business, will take time. This business is a little different though - there's no...

    Nba Playoff Time

Not the prettiest game that's for sure. LeBron did look overwhelmed for most of the game. Hopefully this first game was a wake up call that the Cavs need to step it up and soon!

Dropping a Market Order on the ES - what's the max?

As far as I am concerned, depth means nothing. Bots and programs play with that junk all day that it's of no use in determining how many contracts could actually be traded. I could see 2500 sellers sitting one tick above the current price and then WHAM, they seem to disappear... Seems like...

Dropping a Market Order on the ES - what's the max?

Thanks for the replies everyone, I appreciate it. I guess there's no right or wrong answer here. The reason for the question is basically to see what the potential is on the ES in terms of number able to trade. It's partly due to the realization that for me at least, taking small bites...

Cost Structure for CME Futures Traders

Instead of starting a new thread on this topic, I was able to hunt this one down. Any updated info that can be shared? I am looking at this more myself and could use any updated advice or help. Thanks!

Dropping a Market Order on the ES - what's the max?

I'm curious to hear what those that have traded the ES think could be the max amount of contracts dropped at the market (buy or sell) w/o seeing much (if any) slippage. If you're just guessing, that's fine, but please mention that in your post. The reason for the question is that as I...

    Nba Playoff Time

Well, I will be a witness to it that's for sure. This very well could never happen again in my lifetime, so gotta soak it up now. Call it the Cleveland curse or what, but the fans have to take what we can get b/c we are not used to having highly competitive teams... Always seems...

    Nba Playoff Time

Not a good team, are you kidding me? Right now we are at the very least the SECOND BEST TEAM IN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE. That's worse case scenario. That's right, the Pistons, Suns, Mavs, etc. are all DONE and little Cleveland is still playing when no one has given us a shot. We were not supposed...

ANOTHER POLL: What is your favorite index futures market?

thunder - yeah, I guess to each his own. I've read the many posts here about how the ES is a sham or something b/c of the arbing from it and the pit traded contract, and that's all well and good. I personally could care less as I can get the most move per tick there (US indexes) and trade as...

ANOTHER POLL: What is your favorite index futures market?

    1) Why are you disinterested in NQ? Not so much disinterested, just more interested in the ES at 12.50 tick vs. 5.00 tick. 2) What is the attraction of your chosen market? Specifically, what does it do for you that the other index futures markets do not? ES due to massive liquidity and...

    stop limit order (how often)?

Not true at all in futures daytrading. I almost always use buy stop limits or sell stop limits to enter and have NEVER not gotten my fill. Of course it depends on how many ticks of slippage you set your limit to. I use ONE tick slippage on the ES and have never had a problem getting filled. I...

Becoming an Independant broker while at the same time remain an independant trader

If your intent is to simply trade for yourself and others, set up a CTA (assuming futures) and start trading! You can set up a block account / friends/family account at just about any broker. All the person does is sign trading authority over to you. Open ECry has a very nice block trading...

I am new to futures and have a question

As the above post says, www.cbot.com is a great resource. Spend some time there and educate yourself on the basics of what you are thinking of trading. www.cme.com is good as well for the other popular indexes.

After thinking about it myself as well, the volume charts make a lot of sense if you want to see volume visually represented in your charts.
