    IB 1099-B Tax Question

1099 B is correct. What's missing is schedule D. 1099 contains only proceeds of your sales. Schedule D contains your cost basis and it will correctly show your PnL. Without having your cost basis IRS assumes that you pocketed a profit of 92K.

Dylan Ratigan thinks this is a suckers rally

If they are day traders they normally don't pay attention to those numbers. They just take it day by day. If they are position traders they might want to get building up short position starting Monday.

While Russia and China are moving to the right, America is moving to the left. Putin wants to cut taxes, Obama wants to raise taxes. http://www.forbes.com/feeds/afx/2009/04/06/afx6258210.html

    IB margin account

The profits are all yours. The cash value of your account ( -30K ) stays unchanged (minus margin interest). That's the only money that your broker wants from you and it has to be returned to him at some point. Either by selling 30K of your securities or by adding 30K of cash to your account...

The Uptick Rule - Your Thoughts

I don't see any problems with RIMM. I don't think that RIMM itself sees any problems with it's stock price either. Good viable businesses have no sensitivity to their stock prices fluctuations. Any company deserves to be out of business for whatever reason.

The Uptick Rule - Your Thoughts

If company is so sensitive to it's stock price decline in terms of it's ability to continue it's successful operations then it should not go public in the first place. Otherwise it took a very risky move in my book by going public and as a result it deserves to be out of business.

The Uptick Rule - Your Thoughts

If company's plunging stock price can ruin the company's business it should not go public in the first place ( or pay it's shareholders dividends to show that it's alright ). If somebody's bet that the company's business will contract can consequently bring this company down then the company...

The Uptick Rule - Your Thoughts

The "intent" of the trading is well known and it always is to make profits. And congratulating the colleagues for doing "a great job" is not a crime. The stock collapsed as a result of the poor company underlying business not vice versa. The company would have collapsed even if it was private (...

The Uptick Rule - Your Thoughts

How is it different from buying with aggression into the ask to manipulate prices up and then selling the stock at the higher price? Isn't this how the markets work?

The Uptick Rule - Your Thoughts

Exactly. SEC needs to clamp down on abusive long buying which should be as dangerous and harmful in creating market bubbles as abusive short selling that helps them burst fast.
