So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

Emphasis on *slowly* :D Yeah maybe my timeframe is wrong. I've been using 3 constant range bars and 250 tick charts on the NQ. Are those too fast/slow for 3.25 point stops?

I'll try to get some in this thread.

So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

Wow. All the backtesting I did was on the YM and it has so many "tall bars" that nearly every position I took went at least 10 points against me before it went in my favor. That's why I stopped trading the YM... I hate tall bars, and I always got the worst fills on the YM. You must be a...

So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

I'm talking WITH the trend in this thread. Even when I have the direction right, I still get stopped out on "noise" as soon as I enter... ...hence my thread title "do you have to pick tops and bottoms to not get stopped out?" I've done that. The conclusion I came to was: - you must...

So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

I've been experimenting with constant range charts hoping that they would help with determining this. So say I'm using a 3 point constant range chart for the NQ. If my stop is set at 3.25 points, that gives me the range of one full bar to be wrong about but still have it reverse within that...

So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

Re: not using stops. I've had situations when I entered and price went 20+ ticks against me before it went in my favor (for a profit). That was in a demo account. I don't have the balls to hold onto 20 tick losses with real money. So obviously if it's going 20 ticks against me before...

So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

I know all about how PTF trades. I think it's awesome. But that's why in my first post I said "this is for trend following systems. Obviously counter trend will be different, especially if you average down."

Who has a counter-trend system that worked well past few weeks?

i blew out a demo account in one day using one a few weeks ago. Search my posts for something like "attn: trend followers." edit - here it is http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=137242&highlight=trend I realize that is the opposite of what you were asking for, tho :D

So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

Ah. Kinda hard if you're only trading 1 contract :D I haven't done the math to see how much gain you need over time to make 2-1 profitable over fixed lots. Every initial loss will be significantly more, and you will need significantly longer runs to balance them out. In other words, if...

So doesn't using "tight stops" necessitate

... (almost) picking tops or bottoms? Every time I use "tight stops" I get stopped out regardless of if I had the right direction or not. I'm defining "tight stops" to be 3.25 points on the NQ (13 ticks). I read a, um, "study" on here where where people did some research over a billion...

    Day-Trading 2.0 for small traders

hey veggen, it looks better if you go into your chart settings on OEC and change them like this: Orders --> - Completed Orders = Off - Fills = On That way you can see a small triangle at the price you bought, rather than a big arrow pointing to the candle and not showing the entrance/exit.

Wait, does "tape reading" mean watching TaS? Or looking at price charts?

So you can "tape read" from looking at a chart? Why don't they just call it "looking at a chart" then? And isn't that the same a "price action," too?

Wait, does "tape reading" mean watching TaS? Or looking at price charts?

Or something else. I always thought it meant watching TaS but I just read a website that said that is NOT what it means. Now I'm confused. Or is it one of those vague things like "price action" that everyone says but no one defines?

What causes the price to jump +/- >1 point on the DOM when there are offers in btwn?

What does it mean when it's trading below the bid? I just saw that for a sec. The bid was 892.25, the ask was 892.00, but the highlighted row was 891.75.
