I just tried 10000 CV bars... it doesn't give many bars over the entire day, and the average range is like over 50 ticks, which is too big for me. I'm trying 1000 tick bars now.

tight stops only work if you pick close to tops or bottom. A 4 point stop won't work if there is consistently 20 points of "noise."

5 tick stops? i wish! Price regularly makes 5-10 point jumps on the DOM. I feel like 20 tick stops are the MINIMUM just to not get stopped out with noise (which I find to be horribly annoying... is the NQ any better?)

I have no problem what so ever following mechanical rules with 100% efficiency. I even made a thread when I was pissed off at every poster who says "if only i had followed my rules I would have made money today but I freaked out and blah blah blah." That's why I like 100% mechanical systems...

Do 5 min bars even give you enough bars throughout the day to make a decision? I just changed to 5 min bars and the day is almost over and it fills 1/4 of my screen. Stops would be like +40 ticks away, too :eek:

Interesting. I've heard pretty much the exact argument in favor of tick/volume bars, too. Wouldn't using a bigger timeframe necessitate using larger stops, then? On a 5 min chart, the range of the bars will be much larger. A stop "above the previous high" will be huge.

How is 400 tick any more or less random than 5 min charts? Are you saying that charts are not fractal in nature and some patterns/techniques/whatever work only on some charts but not on other charts?

Price had made the LH, and then gone back down below the previous LL. By definition a new LL was being made, so the LH had to be a LH. What happened was I entered at the *new* LL (1 tick below the previous LL), and that's where it reversed to make a new high, which technically was a HH since...
