Thank you tomorton! Sorry for delay checking back in! So you would sell everything when the index is below its 50 EMA and the 50 EMA is also sloped down. If I own a bunch of stocks, which index would you use to figure out when to sell them (or cover)? S&P500?
Then when do you buy back? As...
I agree with what Overnight and others said above. I, and so many others, are pessimistic as hell, so that literally means look out fora huge rally lol. 3,000 would not surprise me in the least!
Thank you tomorton! So when you say "The best objective decision is to get into cash when prices are falling." - what does that mean? How far, how fast? Those stats you gave give one much fear!
That seems lesson #1 for me as well ironchef! But there is something that I just can't get to add up.
I think it was earlier in this thread I asked what if they scaled down the operations by 250% to angle for a 10% annual return rather than a 25% return. Apparently he would have still blown...
Thanks tomorton.
I would say the line between investing and trading is a grey area. But Warren Buffet exits positions from time to time, does he not? Would you honestly say he is a "trader"?
My main question on the "bearish" comment was how do traders know when the market is "bearish" and...
So, I feel like one of us is severely missing something here. you said this:
"They were probably called away because of the dividend and it being large enough cuz that's the only time when exercising is worth it otherwise they would've just sold the calls to close the position.
But...
1. An investor NEVER sells? Really? I have read a lot of books on investing and I don't think I have come across such a statement. Ever.
2. When has the market gone "bearish" such that traders should sell? Getting out at "bearish" before the market goes "bear" sounds wonderful!
Curious, one can turn around and sell the option as long as expiration is not in the immediate future, but if the option is in the money, and is expiring in 7 seconds, one HAS to call the stock or otherwise have it expire worthless no? Thanks.
This whole thing is weird to me on so many levels. Take this statement:
"The fund is designed to beat the MSCI World Index by 300 to 600 basis points annually."
What the heck does that even mean? I understand how one can use leverage in the futures market to say something like "this fund is...
No expert here, but several months ago I was looking at stuff back in 2008/2009 and how it did in the hit. Even short-term bond funds seem decimated, if only temporarily. So this thread seems at least generally accurate - everything (even gold at least for a bit I think as well) seemed to take...
I watch these threads constantly but sometimes it is hard for me to follow you guys - are yall bulls or bears over next several days, through.. lets say through end of year?
Thanks!
Thanks BigShort! WOW, targeting a 10% return annually is still very, very tough without taking on too much risk, I can't believe how much they must have been taking on shooting for a 25% return! Nuts!
