Open source Auto Trading for IB TWS

Instead of installing MySQL directly, I installed WAMP which is an easy to install bundle of Apache, MySQL and PHP. I had less problems getting MySQL on my PC this way.

Is Demo Account good before starting to trade live?

If you're learning a trading platform, start with demo. If you know the platform and want to try some trading concepts then fund a small real money account, whatever amount won't keep you up at night. It's much better than a demo account because even though it's a small amount most people...

IB API HOWTOs and Guidelines - For Beginners

There's already a Yahoo group for the IB API that's very active and has plenty of source code available. I use the C++ class wrapper from there for all my apps.

    Pair Trading Strategy Journal

I'm starting to think that doing a cointegration test is maybe unnecessary. Your latest batch of trades are from stocks within the energy sector. With a little research on the candidate companies within the same sector you could find stocks that are good for pairs trading. They may even be...

Need source for OHLCV on 4000 stocks on a daily basis that I can download to Excel

There are bulk downloaders that will get historical data from yahoo finance. But it seems wasteful to download the full set of historical data ever day. eoddata.com lets you download end of day ohlcv data for a large number of stocks for free. You could update a fairly simple database daily...

Open source Auto Trading for IB TWS

I've actually messed around with trade manager myself and liked it. What I like most is it's Java so cross-platform on Windoze, Linux and (I assume) MacOS. One drawback is you have to be somewhat tech savvy to install it since it involves installing MySQL. I'm a software professional but...

How are you picking pairs? As I recall pairs are chosen based on cointegration.

    Use localbitcoins.com. It's a real thing. That's a non sequitor.

    Bitcoin thread anyone?

I noticed something interesting on the bitcoinaverage.com web site. One of the exchanges they derive their average from is localbitcoins.com which isn't really an exchange like you'd think of. Localbitcoins is a sort of matchmaking site to facilitate face-to-face exchanges of USD and BTC...

    Bitcoin thread anyone?

In defense of Bitcoin skeptics I'll just point out to the true believers that these 100% returns and $200/BTC exchange rates could be taken away in an instant. That's how Bitcoin rolls.

Straddle and Strangle Trade Set ups

How are you calculating reward:risk? Unless the underlying makes an unexpected move you generally have no edge with straddles. The straddle option prices reflect the market's prediction of future movement and the market is usually right in the short term.

    Long put and market crash

All he means is 1) if the put is ITM then it has (potentially) loads of intrinsic value so you sell it at a profit and 2) if the put is OTM and the market crashes, then increase market IV increases the time value and you can still sell at a profit. In case #1 you're profiting on a directional...

I never cease to be amazed by Ubuntu

There aren't many mainstream Linux-based front ends from IB TWS. As others have pointed out, QuoteTracker does run on Linux under the Wine environment. I don't know if Ninja or others run reliably (or fast enough) under Wine.
