    Work until you die?

I know. In the context of the overheard snippet, "work" meant "employment". The transition to trading is a career change, not retirement. If I come across as one arrogant mo-fo, you're right.

    Work until you die?

A snippet of a conversation overheard in the hallway at work: "I figure I'll just have to work until I die." "Yup, that's what our generation has to deal with." I chuckled inwardly, thinking to myself, "Fuck, no! I'll be trading full time in 5 years." I know that getting to the point...

    Little birdie tells me

I'm not sure what news sites y'all are reading but I've seen no evidence that the uptick rule has been reinstated.

    Annuities....The Next Nightmare

Hmmm. Would a giant like TIAA/CREF be affected do you think? The thought of my mom moving in with us is horrifying.

Black Monday - Futures deep in the red, Asia down again, when will it end?

Bring it on baby. The last Black Monday killed me cuz I was a babe in the woods. Now I know what to do and how to do it.

Looks like a fade the gap play today

Generally a "gap" is the difference between open and previous close, not the low/high. Strictly speaking there's a gap every day; it's a matter of how big a gap is "interesting".

    Firefox vs Chrome

Call me an old fuddy-duddy, but Chrome would have to fix dinner and give me a foot massage to convince me to switch from Firefox.

    time decay play

Your choice has to do with your prognosis for the underlying. If it's trading sideways, you'd be looking more at a calendar spread or iron condor. If it's uptrending you'd be looking at a put credit spread, downtrending it'd be a call credit spread. Calendar spreads, iron condors and credit...

what time frame doyou day trade?

A scalper is gonna tell you that that's all he does and it's the easiest (and only) way to make money. Non-scalpers will tell you to try and follow intraday trends and that scalping is "nuts" and "impossible" The fact is that intraday trend following and scalping can both be profitable...

Rumors floating uptick rule reinstated as of12:30am

I'll believe it when I see it. I really want to see 'em rescind the PDT rules. Protecting peeps from shady business practice is one thing, but what's the gubment doin protecting peeps from themselves? Stupid.

What is a good Trojan scan

Could be it's not a trojan. If it's a WinXP system, it could be just getting "tired". i.e. disk too full, disk heavily fragmented, registry full of crap. This takes years to show itself. The easiest fix for tiredness is a clean re-install as long as you don't have too many apps to...

do you worry your method will stop working?

You probably need at least 2 kinds of systems: a trend following system and a mean reversion system. At least you'd be covered for the 2 main market conditions: trending and chop.

Going through personal crisis & trading

You weren't specific about the nature of your problems. Was it personal or a string of losses in the market? As you pointed out, if you stop trading how do you know when it's safe to start again? I recall reading somewhere (one of the Market Wizards books, maybe?) that you trade smaller...
