futures secured account and bankrupt risk

But the damn rules clearly allow for the c ustomer to take a hit. How hard is that to grasp. Read the regs the link is in this thread.

futures secured account and bankrupt risk

I do not think a single penny has ever been lost by a US citizen client of a regulated US FCM. But that is irrelevant. The link posted earlier in this thread explains one way in which clients are exposed. And there are others. Counter party risk exists. When you play Russian Roulette the...

futures secured account and bankrupt risk

Your link is much appreciated and, as far as the information goes it accurately describes one of the risks in segregation: "If an FCM blows up based on bad trades from Customer A, then Customer B could lose their money in the process of bringing that segregated account back to zero. And for...

futures secured account and bankrupt risk

If you slept with a girl with the clap and did not catch it would that convince you that it was not a communicable disease. All you experience proves is that in THAT SINGLE INSTANCE the segregated pool that you were a part of was not impaired. Had it been under water you would have taken...

futures secured account and bankrupt risk

I suspect you mean "segregated" not secured. And the reality is that you as an individual client do not have ANY segregated funds. As a class client funds are commingled with other client funds and that pool of money is segregated from the funds of the clearing firm. It is a fiction to...

New at trading: starting with Stocks, options, futures?

Rod, ES and NQ are futures contracts and SPY etc. are ETFs. A single futures contract is about $65,000 in stock at current market while in the ETF's you can vary the size as low as you like and limit your risk. To trade 100 SPY (about $13,000 of stock which is a great size to start at)...

Who has the cheapest futures commissions, ans safe?

I never said they fixed there problems ... I, like you, have no idea either way. In terms of IB you obviously believe you have more current information. In the case in question you clearly state your information is 5 - 7 years old. Apples, oranges and maybe a grapefruit thrown in.

Who has the cheapest futures commissions, ans safe?

Is it reasonable to even worry about 5-7 year ago problems when commenting on a firm? It is quite some time ago.

futures secured account and bankrupt risk

This is the single worse piece of advice I have ever heard. To take a broker's word for anything they say on the phone is absurd. Segregation (which both the US and the UK rely on) is not insurance. Few, if any, firms have insurance that will actually pay you "no matter what"...

Iceland to grow by 3% this year

LOL ... no ... I think clearly that none of us (except possibly you) agree with that. I think we all agree that it is possible for it to fail and I think probable. Clearly Martin's assertion that none of it is simple is correct. I think that it is fair to say that even if it fails there...

Iceland to grow by 3% this year

I agree that no one knows how it will turn out but, being speculators, we can speculate. My belief is that political union in the measure it would require to butress the currency will be very difficult to achieve. As for it taking nearly a century and an armed conflict to get our currency...

Iceland to grow by 3% this year

Within a country there were deep divisions which essentially played out from 1820 - 1860 a 40 year period (not a hundred) and resulted in a horrific civil war of less than five years. Yet, except for the actual war years, the US had the currency advantages that a real political union afford...

Iceland to grow by 3% this year

BTW ... not sure how adults could be foolish enough to think a currency union could work without political union.

Iceland to grow by 3% this year

It is incredibly difficult for any single country to abandon the Euro. Any of those that would want to revert back to their sovereign currency would be doing so in order to inflate their way out of their obligations. Imagine the runs on their banks. Billions upon billions would be wired out...

Iceland to grow by 3% this year

I don't think everyone should do what Iceland did but an economy the size of Ireland's can't recover in a reasonable amount of time protecting the debt holders. They are now buried for decades. It is one thing for taxpayers to shoulder a reasonable burden that will protect a nation's...

Why would anyone trade spot fx

Given that you trade crosses that have no liquidity and high transaction costs on the CME it makes perfect sense for you to trade spot. But the number of guys who are trading spot that should be in the futures market is incredible. It is simply marketing might overpowering common sense.

Iceland to grow by 3% this year

This article has it 100% correct. Iceland is moving on and Ireland is screwed for the next 30 or 40 years.

How to Protect Your Income from Taxation?

I've twice lived in London -- a city I like a great deal -- each time for under a year. And while I enjoyed my stay both times it was good to get back to NYC. I can't imagine that living in a backwater would be enjoyable just because you had more money.

The best reason to know that a release is coming is so you can be flat when the news breaks. As NoDoji has stated the best thing is to trade PA not the damn news. FOLLOW THE MONEY!
