It has been my experience that this comment is untrue in most cases. Especially in illiquid securities.

If I have 111 shares of stock and I try to hit a bid, what usually happens to me is that I get filled for 11 shares - i.e., just the odd lot portion - even though the bid that I was hitting was 200 shares or great. I don't know how this happens but it's irritating. I have to keep on reminding...
