That`s actually a common misconception, Pek... It`s always 1 or 2 trades at most that really defines the most profitable years as direction of the move is completely irrelevant during Volatile times... Just like the market we are in now... There is always opportunity from both sides of the plate!

Pure Luck to me was a quasi rookie on my desk who took home a massive Qualcomm position the night before... contrary to compliance catching it... woke up a multi millionaire when Henry Blodget , I believe, gave Qualcom a $1,000 target... up =$105 pre market... now that`s just dumb luck!

`97-`98-`99 was massive Vol... locked limit down days followed by whipsaws.. Also caught MSFT & Dell Long calls in those years... more luck than skill but I always had an intuition about the markets.... `08 was the other...

Good Question... Back in `98.. when I was a cowboy.. was the Tops... Asian Contagion, LTCM, I was short everything my trading desk would allow me to take over night... They must have had confidence in me to allow me the size I had on... even though I was a Rookie at the time.
