Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

All it takes is one big loss and all your hard work has been eliminated - not just the profits, but also the original deposit. Whereas if you withdraw your profits, all you lose is the original deposit minus the margin requirement (in my case) plus slippage. The thing about compounding is...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

I think he means that the amount you are prepared to lose before being stopped out is greater than your expected profit on a given trade. For me, I risk $1000 each time. My stop is set by the margin requirement of about $390. So, I can lose about $600 before a margin call. However, I close...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Nothing changes. Its the same risk; I may lose it. So, why deposit everything I've got. Why not simply deposit what I'm willing to lose? I am choosing to make my deposits a function of risk tolerance and overall savings. Therefore, as my savings increase, my deposits will increase. For...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Well in this case, how much money you deposit is purely a function of how much money you have and how much risk you're willing to take. There is nothing to be gained by depositing more than what you're willing to risk. Why deposit 100% if you're only utilizing 5%?

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

20%/mnth is only easy because the $1000 I am risking is only a fraction of the money I have available. I am not risking everything I have got. Contra, is it really in one's best interest to put everything they've got into forex? We are discussing the option of using forex as your primary...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

I really don't find it that hard to pull $200 per month out of $1000. So, do the math. What do you need to live comfortably? Given my current expenses of about $3000/month, I need $15,000. If I make the rule that I am not willing to trade with more than 5% of my total savings, I need...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Life likes to humble us, doesn't it. My wife and I were racing forward in our lives after settling down from new baby born in July 2012. Early January 2013, full of confidence, but exhausted from baby, my wife fell asleep at the wheel and totalled the car. Thank God she's ok, but that car...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Peace indeed. Let's try and stop this now. I have a long order at 3035 - the bottom of the down spike that occured after the job report. I expect it to test that bottom again overnight (EST) and then rise throughout the day tomorrow. If not, I'm remaining flat for now. And please...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

I never claimed to trade full-time. And the 1K is just the beginning. As my investments increase, the 5% I devote to trading will gradualy increase that 1K trading account. By the way, its actually a late afternoon/evening job - not a day job. Also, its classified as self-employment. It...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Oldtime, you can do whatever you want to with your taxes so long as its legal, but you're trying to tell me and yourself that you were up 68% for the year when the trade was still open and you subsequently closed that trade in a loss. Sorry, but that isn't honest. Before you opened that trade...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

:D You missed the point. As you're quoting your profits to me in 2012 and 2013, perhaps you should be honest about the fact that you weren't really up 68% in 2012 because that was not a closed trade. Then again maybe that isn't how you work. When I quote returns to people, I am quoting...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Perhaps, but your own personal honesty while trading should dictate that that was not a profit in the end. That was a losing trade when you finally closed it.

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Oh I see, you're living with your Mom and sharing expenses with her. That explains how you can live on so little. :D :D Accountant, no, but I am trying to make the point that you are in no position to be judging me. Try and open your mind a little and realize that we all follow different...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Oldtime, you moved into forex while losing on something else. Now, you're losing on forex. I think a little self-evaluation is in order. Beat the long bond? As you lose your money, the demand on what remains increases exponentially. Be careful my friend, if beating the long bond is only...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Your turn? Oldtime, you're eeking out an existance barely while losing your money. Lets see: up 60% last year and down 30% this year. Now, let's adjust that to account for the "ET Effect". So actually, you were up 20% last year and you're down 50% this year, right? Now, I'm out 6 days a...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

$1000/mnth is not going to the bucketshop. In fact in 2013 a grand total of $1000 has gone to the bucket shop, and the bucketshop still has that same $1000. In the meantime, $8000 in saving and profits have been transferred into long term investments. At my age, I can be in about 75%...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

You're not trading FX for a living. You are eeking out an existence, and currently drawing your account down very rapidly. With $500 rent, you're living expenses must be a little over $1000 in total. This is no way to live. Been there. Done that. My rent is $1200 and my overall living...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

That's actually not what I meant. Read what has been written, by jack Larkin, for example. The successful forex traders who trade for a living, aren't replying to this thread because of the nature of these forums. Only those who don't trade forex for a living are replying, or the unsuccessful...

Do full-time forex traders exist or is it just make believe?

Thanks Jack, sorry for reacting the way I did to your comments. I try to be as open as possible on the forums, but seem to get attacked on a regular basis. It has made me quite cynical and perhaps I am becoming what I am complaining about.
