    Increasing Size During Drawdown

If you respect him so little, why would he offer you anything? Try to convince Old time that my simple little system is mathematically more sound than his complex spreading mechanism. :D :D

    Increasing Size During Drawdown

Why does every gambler want to call a gambler a gambler?

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Very true, but after giving you the same argument the other day, I just realized something. Yes, I could just go long, EUR.CAD, but to do that would require me to exit EUR.USD and renter with two EUR.CAD. Its less expensive to simple add on the USD.CAD. We each money manage in our own way...

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Gotta admit. Oldtime, that an occasional second pair from time to time to counter a losing position, does help. Thanks USDCAD for offsetting my losing EURUSD. However, each individual trade is still a directional trade. I am betting on the direction. Aren't you?

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Today and Friday are classic examples of this. As I got punished on my EURUSD trade, my loss is first mitigated by the exchange rate USD to CAD since I am Canadian, and spend in CAD. The loss is then eliminated (becoming a significant profit) by the fact that the investment I funneled the...

And, you have to have a lot more money in your account. You could achieve the same goal with most of that money out of the account invested elsewhere - true diversification.

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Why is that? Could it because you want to profit from its direction? I can see the balancing act you're playing, but in the end you too are looking for that directional trade. If you get it right, you make money, otherwise you lose money. So, I'm back to where I was. Investments traded in...

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Yes, I know. This is where I start scratching my own head. Now, if you threw a long aud.eur, I would wonder what was going on inside of your head. This is why I am inclined to stick to pairs where the base is the same as the currency of my trading account.

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

You're a beginner. You had all of 2012 to play with this. I was trading XAUUSD last year. I've only been trading forex in 2013. All of this gets rather complicated. Example: Short EUR.AUD Short AUD.USD But Short EUR.AUD => Short EUR.USD X Long AUD.USD. So if you're also...

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Oldtime, how does it work when you are trading a non USD based pair in a USD account? I've always avoided these pairs in a USD denominated account because isn't there a double exchange rate to consider? For example: short eur.aud -> short eur.usd X long aud.usd

Double bass? A pair of sunglasses would have solved the boob problem and you would have looked cool to her. Maybe she would have dumped the boy and played with your mouth piece..:D

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Yes, but it reminds me of a very enjoyable period in my life when I was touring through Europe performing that requiem with a youth choir. Lots of music. Lots of good experiences. And yes, lots of alcohol.

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Old time, I can't wrap my head around that mess right now. Instead I'm enjoying a nice performance of Mozart's requiem, awaiting my next delivery and relieved that I have a very simple system that is making a little extra money for me. I don't want to be pumped up on alcohol and dope stressing...

    A mind game

Every year you start again with $500,000? Set aside enough to live on for the year and bet the rest.

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

My point is simply this: are you really providing yourself with a grand benefit, or in the long run are you in exactly the same position as me? You reduce your rate of loss, but you also kill your rate of growth. What's the difference between me risking $1000 100 times and you risking...

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Spreading is a strategy that depends on you having a lot of capital. I'm not in that position right now. Spreading in your case is quite simply diversification. However, if you over diversify you reduce yourself to a zero sum game, in fact a negative sum game after accounting for the spread...

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

Why did you change you handle? What was your handle? I used to be bhardy but decided I didn't want my name all over ET after I was attacked by Atticus over a choice to collect Employment Insurance while trading last spring. He was right. I got myself working and now I'm trading again.

    Oh Man, I'm Flat

I'm not limiting myself to one direction. Recently, I have chosen to be long, but if there is clear trend I will modifiy my direction. Look at the weekly chart. We're still deeply stuck in a range. In a range, either direction is equally valuable.
