    secret of Buffett's success

What would proof look like? Berkshire reported securities holdings in SEC filings. Not clear whether those filings include all of the holdings of the many insurance subsidiaries. It is possible for the subsidiaries to own shares of the parent company, for instance National Indemnity received...

    secret of Buffett's success

I've figured out the secret of Buffett's success. As is well known, he chose to house his insurance operation in a textile stock. This had a number of advantages, chiefly that it depressed the price of the stock for a number of years while Buffett was acquiring shares. But he wasn't buying the...

    Dan Zanger trading service

I took the free trial a couple times. There is no track record. He gives you some trade ideas and what you do with them is up to you. I think it's useful to see what kind of setups he takes and the rules he follows. At least you can be sure, from his record, that he knows what he's doing. But I...

To help the left side of the distribution the US is advised to a) reduce low-skill immigration and drive up the demand for the existing low-skill population by reducing the supply b) provide a 10th grade graduation plus apprentice program for those who cannot or will not graduate...

Any indicators not based on OHLC,V ?

From Lowry's REports: "On the day on which the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached its absolute high for the 1920s bull market, the percentage of stocks making new 1929 highs that day was not 80% or 75% or even 70%. It was 2.30%. Out of 826 stocks that were traded on the New York Stock...

Any indicators not based on OHLC,V ?

Weren't the last few 1000 points on the Nasdaq on lower highs? In other words, in late bull markets the new highs are concentrated in fewer stocks. So you might have missed Nasdaq 2000-5000 following that rule.

    Lone Pine Resources

I looked at Forest. They backed themselves into a corner with too much debt as gas prices declined, but the debt itself doesn't trade higher than 8%. FST might not be a bad pick up here, but not as favorable as LPR.

    Lone Pine Resources

Lone Pine Resources is a 2011 IPO that's been annihilated. http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=LPR&p=W&b=5&g=0&id=p36807261474 I like to follow IPOs because when they break, they really break. There is no support below and every holder has a loss, so selling can be extreme. That appears to...

    Will Radioshack go bankrupt?

what about the officers? Directors buying is suspicious. they are paid to do nothing, so when the company asks them to buy shares, there is probably a quid pro quo ie buy shares or else we kick you off the board. Anyway, there is $600mm of debt. Does anyone think this will generate $600mm of...

    Will Radioshack go bankrupt?

Does anyone walk into a Radio Shack and think, "Oh yeah - this is a good business model." They made their money selling all the little $3 doohickeys that cost 5c to make. Now that business has moved to the net.

Fast way to look through a lot stocks?

I have bookmarks folders filled with bookmarked charts. I can open all the charts at once and then shift-tab through them. If it looks good I drag it to my toolbar and put it on the right watchlist. But I look at eod and weekly charts, not hourly. I find software systems are too slow, clicking...

will cancelling the mortgage deduction crash the housing market

Renters rent from a homeowner, so renters benefit too. Essentially it subsidizes residential housing at the expense of other forms of investment.

will cancelling the mortgage deduction crash the housing market

MID really only helps people who itemize, only the wealthy itemize, and so only the wealthy benefit. If we figure marginal tax rate of 33%, $3000 monthly interest, eliminating MID would result in $1000/month higher taxes. That would be a significant hit at the top end of the housing market...

will cancelling the mortgage deduction crash the housing market

The GOPs have left the MID out of their recent party platform. It looks to be toast within the next ten years, probably much sooner. So . . . does this hurt the housing market? Most likely victims are existing homeowners and mortgage payers, even if they get grandfathered, because incremental...
