    the thread of bad predictions

Did it really go from $36 to $2 in one day? It's a shame there's no site for old stock charts. I'd love to see some charts of Enron, BSC, etc.

The allusion of consensus. Good enuf for government work, apparently.

    A demographic whirlpool, too ?

I can't find where I read this, but here is another interesting fact. The SSA assumes that in the future, workers will be about as productive as in the past. BUT . . . if you adjust that productivity for changing racial demographics (assume that future hispanic workers will be as productive as...

    the thread of bad predictions

The book Gorilla Game in 1997 named the following stocks as potential "gorilla" or tornado or whatever stocks. To their credit, Cisco in 1997 was a good pick. So were some of the other stocks, but largely because of the market, not the stocks...

    the thread of bad predictions

But what's so pathetic is that, asked to name the stock of the next decade, they named stocks of the previous decade. Oracle? Cisco? Cisco in 2000 was bigger than the market cap of all its customers (the telecoms) combined. The law of large numbers also doomed Oracle, Medtronic, etc. Waste...

    the thread of bad predictions

A legendary example of bad predictions: http://www.nytimes.com/2000/02/20/business/business-10-stocks-for-2010-buy-and-hold-picks-from-top-investors.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm The fund managers, at the beginning of 2000, picked the following stocks as the best stocks of the 00s...

And Ackman is also a CIA agent. Unverifiable.

Ackman can leak his own info all day long.

The Shorting of Frauds, Overhyped and Bankrupt Stocks Journal

Judging by the chart, he picked a good time to do his presentation. And considering his performance this year on JCP, he probably needs the help. There was no news here. Quantity over substance. Not going down -> going up.

Long term, gold looks very good. The shorts are wrong. That is all. BTW, the chart is from Breakpoint Trades.

Alternatives for SEC Filing alerts? (vs 10kwizard = morningstar)

I've never seen that happen. CEOs in particular have bad reasons to buy stock. VPs (esp VP of sales) and CFOs are probably more meaningful. But to each his own.

Alternatives for SEC Filing alerts? (vs 10kwizard = morningstar)

It looks like the Google rss is not instantaneous, more like every 60 minutes, so you'll probably get it on an avg or 30 minutes later. Does anyone really need instantaneous access to a 10k or a form 4? That's not exactly info that's traded.

Alternatives for SEC Filing alerts? (vs 10kwizard = morningstar)

Well that depends how fast the hamsters over at Google HQ can spin their wheels. I mean, it's probably exactly the same thing, except they charge you for it.

Alternatives for SEC Filing alerts? (vs 10kwizard = morningstar)

Didn't I just post a $0 solution? I use it. It works. And it's a cinch to set up.

Alternatives for SEC Filing alerts? (vs 10kwizard = morningstar)

You can set up google reader and then add the rss feed for the company (or just the form 4s) from the SEC site to the google reader.

sprott physical silver pslv trading for less than slv

Yeah it was at a discount a couple of days ago. Considering where the premium was a year ago, 1.5% is pretty small.

To be accurate, it's trading less than NAV.

http://www.cefconnect.com/Details/Summary.aspx?ticker=PSLV An indication that individuals are getting a little bored with the sideways silver action. This is the first time PSLV has traded at a discount. Dollar is bouncing along support - if it breaks, silver could take off under QEV...

    From $400m to . . .

Those of you who can remember back into the nineties might be familiar with Abe Gosman. He controlled a number of public companies, including Meditrust, Phymatrix, and Carematrix. In the 90s he divorced his wife, remarried, and declared bankruptcy. He loaded up his companies with debt and...
