CONN is basically two bad businesses that together look like a great business. The two businesses are electronics retailer and subprime lender. Combining them together creates the illusion of a high margin business, when in reality it's a low margin business with lots of bad loans. This should...
"A correlated parlay is essentially a bet that is tied into another, in that if one bets wins, it increases the odds of the other bet winning.
An example would be if you wanted to parlay a first half over bet to the game going over the total. Most, if not all, sportsbooks will not allow...
It's amazing that they do about five minutes of prospecting with a bowl and some water and then decide to invest $500,000 in a big hole that turns out to worthless. There's got to be a better way. So the Russian is right, invest the money in prospecting, only then start to dig.

Some lessons:
a) undercapitalization is a killer. Can't make money without money.
b) don't mine in the jungle. ever. don't do it.
c) don't go for the big, risky score that takes forever. stick to known deposits that are cheap to reach and then get really efficient at mining.
I reverted to 50%. The approach is flawed. A better way than "where will this be in 2 weeks" is "will this first go a) up or b) down x% in the next x days." If you did it like that, then it would be testing something. It's an interesting approach. I think it's definitely an interesting way to...

Just saw an ad for a Stallone and De Niro boxing movie. Lack of innovation isn't just in business. Where are the big new action stars? The big TV shows? Arena bands? Everything is suffering from lack of innovation, other than tiny internet companies with funny names.
Putting in a gtc % trailing sell order is very simple. So why not simply put in the same order except change sell to buy. The look back period would be "since the order was placed."
the more I think about this, this is not even close to being a hard problem. If there were real gold underneath that trash dump, I guarantee you somebody would have already started digging.
Druckenmiller was recently saying that Nikkei is seasonally very strong between Novemer and March (or maybe May) and that it's a no lose trade with a weaker yen and the seasonality. Apparently even during the massive Japanese bear market the Nov-Ma period was still a winner. You can find it on...
