    Order not executing

Actually, that did make sense. And if one leg was a small lot that did not match what market makers are willing to play at, you might not get an execution. You need to find one "person" to do both legs. Bob

    Penson

On the futures side yes. In customer portfolio margin accounts, there is a big difference. No other prime broker calculates margin and risk like they do now. Every other firm has gotten very restrictive. The big issue, is that other firms are changing their requirements often, so the client does...

long bull call spread, what to do if stock falls below break-even

The answer is not simple. What I would do is constantly evaluate the spread. If you still like it, and would buy it here, you can buy more. If you feel like you made a mistake for other reasons besides the stock did not go you way, dump it. Move on to the next trade. The stock dropping below...

    Penson

It's impossible to see a crime like MF Global before it happens. However, there is no reason to believe that Penson Financial and Penson Futures will commit a crime like MFG. They have had some operational challenges over the past year, including losing a large customer, TOS. Currently, even...

free shorting at prop company possible?

Not all Prop firms require flat at end of day. It's hard to find the rule on the SEC/Finra website. To my knowledge, if a securities is NOT on the easy to borrow list, you can't enter an order to short the securities without first requesting and receiving a locate from your Prime Broker. When...

    IB's option cancellation fee

Are you saying it's OK to charge cancellation fees to everyone because it's easier then charging just those traders that earn them from the exchanges?

Formula For Volatility Adjusted SPY Hedge

I think the issue here is simple. You've done your homework and put together a portfolio of longs and shorts. You believe the stocks your short will under perform the market. You believe the stocks your long will perform better then market. I would want to take out market risk. If SPY does not...

Formula For Volatility Adjusted SPY Hedge

No, not volatility adjusted. I don't recommend over hedging. In my opinion, simple is better.

Formula For Volatility Adjusted SPY Hedge

I would look at cash neutral. If your basket of stocks is long $250K, hedge it with SPY or SPY options based on that value. EG. long portfolio value / current SPY value = hedge ratio $250,000/139 (SPY price)=1798 So either sell 1798 shares of SPY to hedge out market risk, or 1798...

    reinstall windows 7

Before you do that, try COMBOFIX. This is a very powerful program that wipes out anything that even looks like a virus. I have a copy in my dropbox. THis is not a tool to be used unless other antivirus programs fail. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/52727955/ComboFix.exe http://www.combofix.org/...

Apple to pay dividend to shareholders: Worst decision in years

I guess it was incorrect to refer to my suggestion as a bank. I was thinking of more of a VISA type processing competitor along the lines of PayPal. With a focus on their hardware and software. To support small business and consumers.

trading account & IRA account with same broker. Twice the SIPC Protection?

Interesting that a joint account qualifies. Also, I have an IRA, Roth IRA and Profit sharing plan all at the same broker, I wonder if they are all considered different customers? Thank you for finding that.

trading account & IRA account with same broker. Twice the SIPC Protection?

I assume that guy knows wat he's talking about, but I can't find that anywhere on the SIPC website. I read only this in many places: Terms of SIPC help. Customers of a failed brokerage firm get back all securities (such as stocks and bonds) that already are registered in their name or are in...

trading account & IRA account with same broker. Twice the SIPC Protection?

I'm not claiming to be an expert on this, but I have called SIPC in the past. At one broker, each "person" is allowed one claim. If you have multiple accounts, it would be included in one claim. Your max protection under SIPC is the SIPC limits on your combined accounts. SIPC only covers the...

trading account & IRA account with same broker. Twice the SIPC Protection?

SIPC covers cash and securities lost or stolen. Futures accounts are segregated accounts, but someone at MF Global still took the assets. So, you still need SIPC to protect cash accounts.

    Setting up an Investment Fund

LLC in the USA are taxed like a partnership. You distribute earnings to the partners, then they pay the tax. Off shore tax "stuff", I can't help with.
