I think it's irrational to set any daily target at all. I am in a position until my system tells me to get out or reverse. This may happen 1 point from the current price, or a 1000 points from the current price. I'll take whatever the market is giving, and I will not try to force my own...

Ask not if the Dow will hit 6000, ask what you will do when it hits 4000.
