Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

If the inherent value in Sedona was so compelling, why didn't people line up to buy it? No matter how powerful the naked shorters are, if there were a way to profit from the situation by buying shares or taking over the company, you can bet that someone would do it. Again, I am not defending...

Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

Yes. If the naked shorters are wrong in their analysis of a company's fundamental worth, they will inevitably be taken to the cleaners.

    Pretty much says it all.

We disagree then. The price of the stock over time will reflect the risk in it. There could be temporary price declines by bear raids, but if the company is mispriced it will be corrected in time.

Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

So beneath all your accusations about naked shorting is this fundamental assertion that OSTK should be higher in price. I am not saying they should be driven from business, but that the market is fairly efficient at pricing the risk in a stock. You keep on promoting these downtrodden companies...

Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

Fine, I understand that naked shorting is illegal and shouldn't be happening. However, flytiger and others have always tied naked shorting with the destruction of companies and the depression of their share prices. There is always this underlying promotion of companies but these same companies...

Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

I am not claiming that naked shorting is not happening nor am I saying it should be legal. However, if someone was naked shorting a good company, they would eventually get buried in the position. There is some theoretical fair value for the shares of a company. Now naked shorting may get you...

Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

Again, you are ranting about this subject and you can't answer my question. You obviously have an agenda on this topic and thus you have no credibility. The problem with everything you are saying is that a good company would have people willing to buy it at a certain price and thus they...

Bloomberg special on Naked Short Selling

Again, who is to say that these companies should not be trading where they are trading? Suppose there weren't any naked short selling - there is no guarantee that the companies would not be trading where they are. In fact, I would say naked short selling should make no difference if there is...

    IB Downtime, 6pm EST, 3/13/2007

IB has been down for me since 5:55pm EST. I can sometimes log in but then I get booted (pink) within a few minutes. Now I can't log in at all. Just wanted to see if anybody else is having problems.

    Weird IB message...

Even so, I would prefer the security token to control the login into the TWS. Of course, I would suggest IB to make this an optional feature rather than mandatory (i.e., API users might suffer).

    Weird IB message...

Any word on when this security device will extend to logging into TWS accounts? Right now it only covers the withdrawal of money, correct?

Amex trade bust - Plz help

Sucks man. Sucks sucks sucks. I can't believe that is a bustable print, but I'm sure the AMEX decision is final. I would pursue the adjustment of the price avenue, but in the end I bet you are just hosed. In the future, I guess you have to wait to exit a position when you get an awesome fill.

How Many Traders Were Stopped Out on Tuesday Because of the NYSE FUBAR Hybrid System?

I don't understand your point. Are you saying that news sources are saying that stock prices were not affected by the Dow computer error on Tuesday? In your example, didn't CVX break its Tuesday low later in the week? So in fact, the computer error on Tuesday (in the case of CVX) had little...

shorting through IB - no message if shares not avalable

And more importantly, how do we know that the order is not just in preSubmitted state, just taking its sweet old time? What is the cutoff point at which you can say "This order is not going active because there are no shares to borrow?" If IB had publically announced this changed before it...

shorting through IB - no message if shares not avalable

How does this affect short orders submitted through the API? Before, an error message would be sent back.

shorting through IB - no message if shares not avalable

It would be nice to know this stuff in advance before IB changes it. To think that people would not get confused about it seems irresponsible. And this is not the first time a change like this has happened without notice. It is an annoying and repeating pattern.

shorting through IB - no message if shares not avalable

So if the order gets submitted instantaneously (i.e., goes green or gets filled), then IB had the shares to borrow. If not, it turns dark blue because there are no shares to borrow currently. But later, if you keep the order open, the shares might become available and your order would go...

How Many Traders Were Stopped Out on Tuesday Because of the NYSE FUBAR Hybrid System?

Would you feel for people short if buy orders clogged up the system and they couldn't get out at reasonable prices?
