Trading for a family member? Am I legally allowed to trade their accounts?

If I were you I would keep this simple. Have your Grandpa create an entity where you are both managing members. He will be a capital partner and you will manage day to day operations. The LLC document provides your profit split and gives you the ability to open a brokerage account to trade in...

    exchange member vs "direct access"

Because it's a regulated industry. (I'm going assume you are not talking about futures) To get direct access on your own with out a BD in the middle, you need to be a member of the exchange or hold a trading permit. To do that, you need to register with the SEC and a SRO (self regulatory...

    Hidden orders?

Unfortunately there is no universal answer to that. If you work an order by pegging to the bid, you might never get an execution and miss out on a move. If you always take the offer, your commissions cost and quality of execution might suffer but you will have your position in place. I was not...

    Hidden orders?

It is my expectation that a "NON-DISPLAY" order has no protection from REG NMS. You will only be represented on that one ECN. The other ECNs should have no knowledge of that order. To be a "protected bid or protected offer", it must be displayed on the consolidated market data feeds.Hidden or...

    Canadian ECNs

In general, PM is not available for foreign securities but is for ADRs. Then, Canada has not approved PM, so their regulators don't allow that much leverage.

Should You Trade the First 30 Minutes After the Market Opens?

I know traders that do most of their trading in the first and last hour. The morning has a lot of activity from foreign investors and those that have jobs to go to. If you are a trader you need to find alpha not avoid it. If you are an investor, it might make more sense to enter/exit positions...

Why Only 10% of Stock Traders are Successful (and 90% Fail)?

It requires finding an edge and executing that edge properly. Most traders never find that edge. It also requires proper capital. Entering any business under capitalized sets you up for failure.

    What is Quant Trading?

I met with a hedge fund last weekend. They use a quantitative model to choose the stocks in their Long/short fund. They are not an automated system. They use a mathematical model, inputting company data and economic data to determine what to buy or sell and when. They execute though a VWAP...

    CME Quoting Both Sides

You should also be able to rely on your FCM for information also. We do business with FC Stone and they have a person there dedicated to member services at the exchanges. I still confirm everything with the exchange.
