New BATS options market EDGX Options goes live

Pro rata to me means a match based on size. 10 people with orders matching the bid, 10 matches based on size. If you are 25% of the bid, you should get a 25% match. 100 trade, you get 25. I'm not sure if that is what they are doing. I'd have to look into it more closely or call them.

Why is market data so expensive?

CME MD fees are new. Everyone pays if you want live data. Profit center for exchange. If they did not charge for it, they would just charge higher clearing fees. Cost of doing business. Many exchanges charge a lot more like NYSE and Nasdaq.

    Any PROP offering REDI?

Sorry, I only knew they used Redi because they clear GSEC. Why Redi? I used it for many years and was not impressed. Might be better now. I stopped using it in early 2010. My firm offers it but I'm not sure if anyone uses it. On another note, if you expect "customer service" when you join a...

"If the securities subject to day trading are a part of a hedge strategy, then FINRA does not consider the collective transactions as day trades and therefore it would not subject the account holder to the day trading requirements. A hedge strategy for the purpose of FINRA rules means a...

What is the future of hedge funds?

I'm not happy about paying a yearly management fee, but in the end, I only care about risk adjusted returns after taxes. I pay 2/20 and 0/25 and prefer 0/25. I hope each month I have to pay them a lot of incentive fees! These are SMA not hedge funds. Hedge funds have to charge a yearly...

What is the future of hedge funds?

I think much of the industry is moving (Slowly) toward SMA. More clarity and control for the beneficial owner. Even many large pension funds, Fund of funds and family offices are demanding SMA. Bob

    exchange member vs "direct access"

The costs are not $5mm. The requirement to open a BD account for a prop operation might be that high especially for options.

I'd like to hear about that too. I'm not an expert on Reg-t. BTW, Apex Clearing has a policy that if Reg-t is better than PM , they will use Reg-t. One example might be a symbol deemed PM ineligible.

    exchange member vs "direct access"

Occam, You can be a broker dealer but use a clearing firm for custody, clearing and banking. They take care of those other processes. You don't have to be self clearing to run an efficient trading operation. You also can use an execution broker to access DMA and avoid that fixed cost and still...

"transmit all" pull-down menu option in IB TWS platform

When I was a floor trader, I use RediPlus to execute away orders and stock. One day I right clicked on the portfolio, and it gave the options of "cover 25%, cover 50%, cover 75% and cover 100%. That scared the crap out of me as this function had no confirmation. And, it would enter market...
