What happens to option holders in cases of acquisitions?

In the case of a corporate action, the OCC will have a bulletin on the website that prescribes what is to happen. Theocc.com

    Day trading during ACATS transfer

That is the correct procedure. Otherwise you would always have securities waiting to settle. They can't do the acat until all trades are settled.

    Day-trading margin question

Daal, A DT call does not always mean you are losing money, just used too much margin. Would you not prefer to unwind your position vs a market order from your clearing firm? Bob

    Day-trading margin question

IB will liquidate you if you don't cover yourself quickly. We introduce to Apex Clearing. In general, we don't auto-liquidate unless you received a risk call and were non-compliant. We expect that if you were to get a margin or DT call that you will wire in money to meet the call. My email is...

    Day-trading margin question

Is this a Reg-t or PM account? PM margin is calculated at EOD, but the day-trading calculation is time and tick so you will still get a DT call if you use more than your PM margin at any point during the day or a risk call from house rules. Can't escape it.

    Day-trading margin question

I assume you are asking about equities. Clearing firms are required to monitor margin by time and tick. If they can't monitor that way, they have to use an aggregate method which is worse. An online broker is set up to not allow margin calls. Institutional relationships typically don't have...

How to begin investing in the stock market?

I'm just saying that if you choose to be a stock picker vs broad based funds, you have to keep up with those companies and review your choices on a regular bases. Traders do this all the time but investors get lazy.

How to begin investing in the stock market?

The problem with that is that over time, many "blue chips" have turned sour. Eg IBM, Kodak, GM, C, AIG, etc. Hard to tell who will be next....

How to begin investing in the stock market?

Trade, maybe, invest, I think it is always a good time to get started. I know someone that last year cashed in a mutual fund they bought 25 years ago in their IRA. They put in around $58,000 and now it's worth ~$250,000. That is a compound return of around 6%.

How to begin investing in the stock market?

I believe that the best way to "invest" over the long term if you are not trading, is dollar cost averaging. It works better in a IRA, Roth IRA or 529 savings account because of year end taxes. Pick a mutual fund that represents your risk tolerance, and buy the same dollar amount each month...

When An Option Increases Nearly 9,000%

It can be done, but you need an edge. You can design options spreads that have a high probability of success after earnings, based on your assumptions. I know a hedge fund that believes they can predict earnings disappointment/beats based on analysis of social media/advertising. You just need...

When An Option Increases Nearly 9,000%

Back testing can be a funny thing, as you know what has happened in the past. You can design a strategy that worked for what happened, not necessary for what will happen.

When An Option Increases Nearly 9,000%

That is of course true, however, in my experience, betting on stock direction from earnings has a low percentage win rate unless you have some edge. Even if you knew 100% what the earning were going to be, the comments they make on the next quarter and other items that come out during conference...

    Profits from prop firm

I expect this is up to date, but your prop firm CFO should be able to confirm. The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (signed on January 2, 2013) made qualified dividends a permanent part of the tax code but added a 20% rate on income in the new highest 39.6% tax bracket. (40%) Ordinary...
