Why don't more people trade index futures?

I don't know the average range on the YM but a simple daily chart can give you an idea. As for volume, yes around 100k is about average right now. It's right around ER2 numbers, but the ER2 has been higher in volume than the YM. At $5/tick though, slippage on the YM is not nearly as costly as...

    Congrats to the Buckeyes!

What a great game today as OSU beat that team up North to clinch the Big Ten Title and a spot in the BCS Championship game. Great game Bucks!!! Also - looks like Troy Smith locked up the Heisman as well.

Why don't more people trade index futures?

I too agree that index futures are a good instrument to trade, but understandably they are not for everyone. I also agree with the comment that the ES sucks right now. The movements are pathetic and even though it has the most volume, I would say it is the weakest index future right now to...

3:1 risk / reward. How do you personally use stops

56 - that's what risk to reward analysis is - ASSUMING your stop is hit vs. your profit target(s). Then, you see if you are anticipating making more than what you are willing to risk. As for projecting risk as "slightly" accurate, that may be true in stocks and in swing trading; however, in...

3:1 risk / reward. How do you personally use stops

Well said Dan, I have noticed the same thing with my trading. Either it pops fairly quickly or then it becomes a 50/50 situation.

    Picking Tops.

Depends who you ask Dack. Recently, the trend followers are saying WOW, THIS IS FUN. The reversals are saying OUCH, THIS HURTS. It also depends if you are asking day-traders or swing traders. I personally just trade intraday, so I just want the markets to move - up or down, I don't care. There...

    Picking Tops.

How to know when the market is topped? Great question and one that many, many traders attempt to perdict. Just see the threads on ET recently with all the 'top callers'. My reco is to not stand in the path of the train. Eventually the train will stop, but it can be costly trying to figure out...

    Series 7 Shortage?

If you already have your 7 that saves a company LOTS of time and money - they can go straight to teaching you how to sell. Having your 7 already can be valuable if you want to become a telemarketer ... I mean, Financial Advisor. :D

POLL for ES intraday traders: Do you trade at or near the open?

Same here Walther - if a signal shows at 9:30am, take it. If it shows at 10:45am take it. Lunch time can a little iffy just depends on how you like to trade. I understand what the starter of the thread is asking though. The first 30 min's can see a lot of action and to always just watch would...

    Fundamental Analysis - Confuse!!!

fontier - the markets don't always go exactly where the 'book definition' says they should go based on econ news or something. That's the beauty of trading! Good luck!

    Hedge Fund TV Show

Guys, it's a TV show. It's put on by TV producers who are not traders, they are there to film an entertaining show that sells commercial spots. As long as you keep watching, then it is working just fine.

ES Daytraders, Whats max heat you will take ?

Austin - it's b/c Ninja does not offer MIT orders. They have 'CIT', which is Chase If Touched. I have NO idea why you would want to CIT vs. MIT, but that's what Ninja offers. I attempted to ask them thru email why they are set up like this, but the person from Ninja was very rude and basically...

    Analyst career

You most certainly will need the 7. And that's just the start if you want to a 'stock analyst'. You'll need additional certifications such as the CFA. This is assuming you want to work at firm like Merrill Lynch. When I hear 'analyst' I assume that means at a major firm.

    Anyone here like HSI ??

Few questions about the foreign markets from an ES trader: 1) What charting platform do you use for this data? 2) What trading platform do you use to trade? 3) What contracts are best to start looking at? 4) How would you compare these markets to the ER2 and ES? - movements, volume, best...

Stocks to park my $$ in with High Dividends

Not necessarily if he is looking for something low maintenance. Investing in small caps requires the time and effort to watch and monitor. If you reinvest the dividends for many, many years you can increase your share balance and the stock can putter along and you will make money since you...

3:1 risk / reward. How do you personally use stops

Good question and great replies here. I like to get my stop moved and it's a double edged sword - if it moves in your direction quick, you are ok moving it. If it pudders around (noise) there's a good chance you get taken out and then get to watch it move in your direction. My feeling is...

Better career Financial Advisor or Life Insurance?

Since I was an FA, I would have to say that the FA is better route - you can sell insurance (great commissions but very boring to sell) and then you can sell stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc. As an insurance only guy, you are a 'one trick pony' that is constantly pushing whole life insurance...
