I agree, we are both in the same boat here. Just need to set your stop and profit and let it go. Either you win or lose, but all your winners actually reach their potential. 2 ticks is not going to cut it!!

Welcome to the group Steve. Everyone, say 'Hi Steve'. I am the founder of this T.H.A. - Trigger Happy Anonymous. Don't worry, you can feel comfortable here and nothing will leave this room. :D So far, it has really helped that I don't see any P&L's while trading. You may want to try this...

    Volume Bar Analysis

Thanks guys. When I first searched, it was misleading that the 'why do people use odd sized tic charts' was actually the thread about Volume Bars.

fearless - I found the thread with you and the prof on. Great thread and thanks for sharing with me.

Why do people use Volume, Range and Tic charts?

Wow... great thread. Thanks for sharing Prof. Thanks to Fearless9 for pointing me in this direction. One suggestion to the mod's though - might want to change the title of this thread to Volume Bar Analysis. I did a search for this and normally would have skipped this thread b/c of the...

    Bored from Using Goals

If you're hitting the profit targets so soon, make the targets bigger! Just an idea to not just settle for where you are at, keep pushing yourself!

fearless - well, you got my attention which is not easy to do. I started this thread to hopefully get a few more views outside of my journal: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82603 Thanks again fearless and since it sounds like you are trading these, I would...

    Volume Bar Analysis

In my journal, http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=1294405#post1294405 - a suggestion was made to look at volume bars vs. a set timeframe for a chart setup. This has really grabbed my interest, but not sure where to start. Hopefully someone that has used volume bars before...

fearless - thank you for this info... Question - do you have any website links that breaks this down more that I can look at? For example, I like to trade on a 3 minute chart. How many contracts would I set my template to so that it moves similar to this timeframe? Not sure I said that...

No, I do not check my watch but my trading platform timestamps all orders when I place them on the DOM. I see now what you are saying... I changed my chart setup to volume based bars and it is a little different.... something to think about...

So true optionpro. Hopefully if nothing else, another trader now or in the future will stumble across this journal and my suggestion of removing as many P&L's as possible will make sense to them and save them some of the headaches I have gotten.

fearless - no doubt, I am very quick to hit that flatten button when I am staring at the P&L's tick by tick. Now that I have elminated all but one P&L (and it is covered up during trading), that is helping alot. I have looked at other charting timeframes, setups, etc. but have found a lower...

12/13/06 Great example today of how patience can pay off... At 10:17am EST I took a long on the EC at 1.3276. Stop placement was 1.3271. Profit target was 1.3290. At 11:08am EST profit target was hit for +14 ticks = $175/contract. Sounds like a good trade just looking at...

Frosty's auto-trading bot goes live with REAL money

Frost - not to be a downer, but who knows... if the bot as it is now loses money over the long run, you can just do the opposite of what the bot would normally do. You can just fade the bot. Sounds like a joke, but you never know...

    portfolio Managment Software

I haven't looked in a while, but Morningstar may have something you can purchase. Depending on what broker you use, they may have something as well. Most full service firms have this software, not sure about the online firms. Something simple like Microsoft Money may work as well.

    Staying focused and alert

It's sometimes hard to stay focused, esp when your setups are not appearing often during the day. And just when you go check the email or see how your fantasy team did, a nice trade shows up and you miss it... I'd love to hear other suggestions traders have to stay focused, esp when your...

Well, for the first day of not staring at P&L's it took a little getting used to, but it did help to not stare at the P&L's each tick... Still have some work to do, but not a bad first day as I was not sure how easy or hard it would be after being used to the setup I had for so long.
