OHLC because if you color candle charts according to the slope of an MA (or somethign else), you can't tell if it was an up candle or a down candle. But with OHLC you can. See?

Timeframes don't matter. Everything is fractal. What works on 50 tick charts should work on 15 min charts or whatever. Math is math.

Let us define "trend" as: "the period of time from the first bar after a MA changes slope until the first bar after the MA changes slope again" (ignore the rare instance when a MA is going sideways... depending on your settings, that might happen like for one bar during a week long period)...

VWAP? VOL POC? TPO POC? The middle of Bollinger Bands? A secret Fibonacci MA? A non-Fibonacci MA? A random number generator?

Measuring how choppy something was is useless. I'm not one of those "boo hoo all indicators are lagging" people, but chop indicators do lag. Come up with an indicator that tells me how choppy it's going to be and I'll give you some of my profits.
