The VIX futures do a very poor job of tracking the VIX. That's why no one trades them.

For sellers, it's a good time to get some cheap downside insurance. The Aug 1200P/1190P debit spread is going off at about 2.50 today. The vix keeps dropping because we can't get any downside movement. Every dip keeps getting bought so the fear is draining out.

This really cannot be calculated with any degree of certainty. For instance some of those who finished ITM short may have been huge winners - if they were hedging the underlying and wanted to be called away, etc... It is impossible to know the context of each position as it is sold/bought...
