Bear up 300% from bid price - proof Fed panicked and defrauded

The fed did the right thing. JPM is just holding it in case nothing else materializes. But it will. The Fed needed something done in 36 hours and no one can properly evaluate an entity in that amount of time. Others are looking at BSC and evaluating their assets. Look for multiple...

    IB margin drifting higher?

I have a couple of IB accounts. One is tiny and the other not. In the tiny account, I hold one ES put and one ES call, both short and expiring next week. The standard margin on one ES contract should be around 3500. Lately it's been more like 4000 - 4200. When you hold a put and a call...

    SPX Tuesday's lows, help??

1255.50 was limit down for futures and reached several times in the pre market session. The index low was 1274 after the open.

Bernanke Pump and dump part II/January

Would it not make sense to cut 50 this morning? Today gives him plenty of time before the next meeting in 12 days. It's right before he goes up to the hill to testify - that would ease the questioning and make him look like he's on the job. If he doesn't do it today and they hound him...

    Niederhoffer's Matador Fund 2006 Performance

I got my answer. Vic blew up again. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119197920288354271.html?mod=hpp_us_whats_news

S&P500 Options expiring on last trading day of the month

I still trade them. Volume is still less than the mid month, but more and more people are discovering them every month. Spreads are also still a bit wider and there are fewer MMs...but it's getting better. On a related note, IB completely botched the settlement for July - not settling...

Monday Will Start Off With Futures Down Big!!!

The dow futs are at about +80 now. How's that short looking?

more bad news for Bear Stearns

I am not buyside only. I simply prefer to see some evidence of an orderly market. A 10% pullback is fine, just not in one day based on a BS rumor. The same is true for the upside. Obviously we all have to deal with whatever the market deals...but essentially the market is just one big crowd...

more bad news for Bear Stearns

Resigned? WSJ had a source Sat AM (page A1) that said the board was meeting Monday to discuss his removal. Someone had to take the fall for the bad bets. Now someone needs to take the writedown, then maybe we can get on with things.

Monday Will Start Off With Futures Down Big!!!

With the VIX at 25, I'd say we're probably close.

    Double standard for Vick

The NFL was the only thing keeping him out of jail and now it looks like the NFL may have financed his trip to jail. It is weird - and refreshing - to see them finally doing something about one of their criminals. I think NBA ratings have dropped dramatically over the past few years and NFL...

Monday Will Start Off With Futures Down Big!!!

It's really great to see all the doom and gloomers come out when we have a downdraft. When we were at 14000, it was tough to find anyone talking the market down, just like it's tough to find anyone talking it up here. This was just about sentiment, mood, etc... And you should know how fast...

Wide bid-ask spread on liquid options

That's possible. Even on the index futures options, MMs will back away before known news hits...some mornings around 8:25 or so. There can be too much risk to sit close to the money when a move is likely imminent.

Trading book authors that operating a fund or themselves trade today?

What was VN's return last year? Anyone? He stopped reporting to Barclays after he got bit in May 2006 and I haven't read anything about his actual returns since. I'd at least like to know if I finally beat his return in 2006.

    Futures expiration and IB

IB only allows deliverables of cash. IB just doesn't get into the business of physical deliverables because it's a huge headache. Since a very high percentage of people who trade are only interested in getting the cash as a result of the movement of a particular commodity, IB is here to serve...

    Futures expiration and IB

There's no arb there for the little guy. Serial months MAR/JUN/SEP/DEC of index futures settle to cash as that's the only time they expire. ES for example stops trading at 9:30 but the settlement isn't known until around Noon or so. The QCharts symbol is SET.X for the SP settlement and it's...

    Futures expiration and IB

It's only garbage because it went against you. Had you been pleasantly surprised by an SOQ in the 60's this thread would not exist and we wouldn't be wasting our time trying to help you understand something very basic that is readily available on the web. SOQs can be far outside of what seems...

whats this new cumbersome login with ib?

I'll try this here then post a new thread if I can't get an answer. For you guys - institutions or otherwise - who have people doing your accounting elsewhere, how are you dealing with the new STD? My accountant and auditor are in far away states and log into the web regularly solely to...

Goldman now sees no Fed rate cuts in 2007 and 2008

This would be an example of Goldman, Merrill and Morgan Stanley working to create their own dip to buy. By the end of the week, Abby Cohen will be on the tube reaffirming her 1700 S&P target for year end.

URGENT, Secure Device Required for TWS

I have an institutional acct and a personal acct. Neither required it today. I received several emails late last week saying that today would be the rollout. I think a phased approach is entirely the smartest way to implement something like this.
