It Turns Out Money Can Buy Happiness: UK Study

I'd like to participate in the next study...gimme a ton of money and I'll spend a few years blowing it and report back whether it made me happier or not.

What is the economic rationale for allowing the Fed to create trillions of dollars out of thin air

With all this crazy talk about getting educated and understanding actual economics, you may be asked to leave the room. LOL. These threads are for conspiracy theories - and not just theories - conspiracy realities! Get some popcorn and put your feet up.

Who or What is your Worse Brokerage Story? Are there Brokerages You Won't Go Near?

A huge percentage of the fraudulent IRS refunds went to FL businesses as well. There are a lot of places down there where you see large numbers of "tax prep offices" within a fairly small area. Lots of "doc in the box" disability fraud shops down there too. Of course FL has mostly legit...

Who or What is your Worse Brokerage Story? Are there Brokerages You Won't Go Near?

I've had some friends in FL tell me that they feel the same way...that Central/South America starts just south of Jacksonville.

What is the best way to hedge a long SPY position against a future market crash?

If you find anything that provides solid protection at a cheap price, please let us know. I've been looking for it for 30 years now. There's a reason those tails are fat!

Question on option liquidity and open interest/volume

There are caps for CME and CBOT products. I think the limit for SP is 28,000 contracts (for all months combined). This number is for directional exposure though, so if you are putting on net neutral spreads, the number may not apply. You also may be subject to large trader reporting if you...

Are there any millionaire traders who started undercapitalized?

I went from around 2K to a bit over 100K in about a year in the 80's. I was shadowing the greenmailers. Greenmailing was effectively made illegal a few years later. Things change in the markets (technology, crowd behavior, regulation, market dynamics) that may create or eliminate...

Are there any millionaire traders who started undercapitalized?

Interesting. I would have thought that it was possible that there may be a few in the world out there, but I guess not.

$70,000 minimum wage at this private company...

Yep. And instead of his employees making a market wage - like they were before this stunt, they are going to be making zero when the company goes under. But will anyone notice?

Three Rich Treasury Secretaries Laugh It Up Over Income Inequality

Why is Jesse Livermore a respected trader given his track record of blowing up?

...for the same reason we talk about Vic Neiderhoffer all the time. He blew up repeatedly also, but we've devoted an incredible amount of text to him on this site.

US Post Office Becoming a Bank?? WTF???

Another view...not from mother jones. The key term here..."unfunded obligation." The rest of the gov't has an $860B pot of money - that makes $79M in interest per day - that serves to fund Federal retirements. Before the law, OPM had to constantly borrow from that fund to pay the Postal...

US Post Office Becoming a Bank?? WTF???

Not sure where you read this, but it's false. The US feds pay for their retirements out of payroll deductions...except for two agencies - one being the Postal Service. They were allowed (many years ago) to make bulk payments to OPM on behalf of their employees - instead of every pay period...

US Post Office Becoming a Bank?? WTF???

There's a huge disconnect here that all these media articles never cover about the "unbanked". This article says that the average unbanked household pays $2400 per year in fees to the various entities for services, yet the primary reason given by the unbanked for not having a checking account -...

Pro Traders: how do you invest your money?

Not too many moons ago, it was US Treasuries. Hopefully we'll get there again. Mostly bond based stuff. High grade corporates, munis and some carefully selected junk thrown in for the higher rate. I look at mostly funds for these kinds of things and I'd suggest getting a few...

Pro Traders: how do you invest your money?

Here's my take... I have an account that I still use for trading and running my structures. I have a set amount that I want in that account to run things and I keep it in that general range. I have a cash reserve account that would serve to "re-fund" the main account in the event of a blowout...
