Exactly. The very definition of a black swan...

Investing Ratios You Need To Know for valuing a company.

I would include the "actual earnings and cash on hand" to the "made up earnings and cash they wish they had but reported on their balance sheet" ratio. That's clearly a key metric to determine the long term direction of the stock.

    Ben Bernanke Is Fed Up

What did he expect? He was talking to politicians. Anyone that has spent any amount of time around politicians knows the majority of them aren't that bright and they generally get re-elected by parroting whatever is polling that week. If the base wants a gold standard, there will be a sound...

    The Flaws of Fundamental Analysis

And even those may be amiss. I used to do incredibly thorough analysis of equities. Some of them just make up numbers from thin air, and there's absolutely no way to determine that before you're in. I stopped trading equities about 15 years ago.

What time does IB auto-liquidate exp. day ITM options -Excess post expiry

Yes...the reps will just read some boilerplate that indicates you can be liquidated at any time on Friday.

What time does IB auto-liquidate exp. day ITM options -Excess post expiry

I believe it's any time after 3pm. When it's happened to me, it's generally been between 3:10 and 3:30pm. The premium you'll gain by waiting til the last hour could be more than lost with a bad fill. If the bid/ask are wide at the time they liquidate, it could be ugly. I always do my own...

Unbelievable, Verizon is pricing customers out of their grandfathered data plans!!

I don't think any of this stuff is forever. I'm sure in the fine print is their ability to change their terms whenever they like. Would you expect them to give you unlimited data 30 years from now? The only thing that ever crimps their ability to just do whatever they want is the negative PR...

Just curious...which aspect of this story do you find to be "unbelievable"?

Two economists tried to replicate a bunch of published economic studies — and the results were distu

Sorry man. It sucks I know. It's sad how so much has become political now...I hate it. It's gotten so bad that every time we have bad weather, I just think how everyone blames Republicans for global warming - oh wait that's "climate change" now. Please excuse me, I'm in the DC area. It's...

Two economists tried to replicate a bunch of published economic studies — and the results were distu

This is what has happened to the field since people like Paul Krugman started getting air and print time. This hard lined socialist gets his education from other Bill Alinsky followers, then gets accolades from those who (these days) bestow such honors - like Nobel prizes - upon those who...

Another company thats going to lend people with bad credit scores money at 26-36% APR.... HAHAH

It's all perfectly legal - as long as you don't call it a loan...check out these guys. 35% interest is leaving a lot on the table. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2015-10-06/how-two-guys-lost-god-and-found-40-million

Portfolio level stop loss in Interactive Brokers

Not sure how long you've been with IB, but I would investigate this thoroughly before you decide to implement such a thing. There are times when the market is thin, or fast, or after hours - or a host of other conditions - and IB's "Net Liquidating Value" number is wildly off. It's not every...

    My introduction

Those threads that have led you nowhere are important - you know what isn't going to work for you. It might take years. Start anywhere and everywhere you have time and interest to do research and experimentation. Put some real money to work and make some mistakes and lose it. I know what...

    My introduction

It's like asking someone for a cash printing machine. If you find it here (publicly), it's probably worth what you paid for it. The only thing potentially sustainable and profitable FOR YOU is something you create, tweak and run yourself - something that fits your risk tolerance and...

U.S. banks moved billions of dollars in trades beyond Washington’s reach

This is a great article. The public is absolutely clueless about what goes on in the real world of banking. The politicians will stand on their soapboxes and brag about all the great rules they pass and how they are cracking down on the "Wall St fat cats" - and neatly tucked in every one of...

Dow, S&P close up more than 1%, post biggest reversal in 4 years

With options, especially those that I'm long that are near worthless into the close - I always hold them til either the very end or until I just can't stand it and have to take the profit. I had nothing on today, but I can tell you with certainty if I did - that I would have closed them a very...
