Chppiest Trade I have Ever Seen

Well it is crazy out there...but equities are oversold short-term....and 12k on the Dow continues to hold. The market is testing for a hold or break here.... one is bullish, the other is bearish.

why trade prop when you can retail daytrade futures with same 20:1 margin

Yes, but as has been discussed on this board MANY TIMES in the past, Prop firms don't promote futures....at all. THERE'S NO MONEY IN IT FOR THEM....the retail rates have been driven to the ground....that's why. And they can't compete....and make money. There's big bucks in equities however...

    JC Trading

That's a dumb question. Everyone knows prop rates are based on volume. You doing 500,000 share-trades per day ?

why trade prop when you can retail daytrade futures with same 20:1 margin

Let me weigh-in here having done both prop and retail futures: 1) they have similarities when it comes to risk management (prudent use of stops) and money management (bet sizing). 2) ample and even excessive leverage is available for both (see $500 margins for some emini futures contracts...

Not true: http://mediaserver.thinkorswim.com/transcripts/Sept_13_2006_DDE_links.pdf I'll be glad to answer any questions regarding the Excel interface. It works pretty well....but you better have a fast CPU.

    Comment on Rubin this morning...

Simple and on=target: A kleptocracy (sometimes cleptocracy) (root: klepto+kratein = rule by thieves) is a government that extends the personal wealth and political power of government officials and the ruling class (collectively, kleptocrats) at the expense of the population. A kleptocratic...

Mike- ridiculous statement....UNLESS you are trading with a programmed system....aka "automated" system. Manual human trading can't distinquish between 3x per second vs. 10x per second.

Sam Zell: "US won't enter recession; sees housing recovery in Spring"

IMHO Sam Zell's been a pretty lucky camper most of his career and I say this time he's wrong. Plus, what economics degree does he hold anyway ?

    Comment on Rubin this morning...

by Charlie Gasparino of CNBC (approx. 8 am EST): "yeah, Rubin's making 20 million dollars at Citicorp for doing nothing". I'm just wondering....would Rubin have grounds for suing either Gasparino or CNBC over that comment ?

A cautionary tale for system developers

Java had it's chance to shine and ....it blew it....largely because of the ever-so-slow Java Community Process. Several large Java trading platforms have been unable to use JRE 1.6 because of bugs.....and after 6 months since release ? Unexcusable....I'm sorry, even MSFT can do better than...

Attention Non-US Residents: Teach Us The Error of Our Ways

I LOVE the title of this post.....and the answer is "oh so simple", but the solution is NOT: "the USA has too many laws, too many lawyers", no de-legislators....ie we can't get rid of obsolete laws that bog down every day life. Instead of INNOVATING, we're SUFFOCATING. End of story....end of...

2 ways, maybe 3 ways? to protect from massive loss trading futures...here they are

Sounds simple....but you must be great at knowing exactly WHERE to place that stop loss order. Otherwise, you will still get to that category of "massive loss"....it will just take more time, that's all. Tight stops with Index Futures practically guarantee a poor win/loss percentage.
