Ghost of If You Can Draw A Straight Line

No change to speak of. We bounced off the bottom of the range and hit the top of the range. This week's charts pretty much encapsulate what trading by price and trading in "foresight" are all about. These will be the last until something interesting happens.

Is trading really worth the time and effort?

Indicators are popular because they appear to be easy. How did they come about? Perhaps because they seemed less time-consuming than trading price. What "works" is a thoroughly-tested and consistently-profitable trading plan. It will be next to impossible to find a losing trader who has one...

Is trading really worth the time and effort?

Tread carefully if you take the indicator route. Keep in mind that if indicators were the answer, everyone who used them would be successful.

Is trading really worth the time and effort?

Yes. If you're willing to do the work. Astonishingly few are. Probably not. FA is not what it was 30 or 40 years ago. There was a time when FA would tell you what to buy and TA would tell you when to buy it. But that's no longer the case. Most FA advocates seem to use it to convince themselves...

Since the futures markets run overnite, it is important that you consider the premkt context when evaluating opportunities. Here, for instance, the market DBd at 0600, which was a test of the low made yesterday. Yes, it was possible that after price fell from 82 that it might test those lows...

Ghost of If You Can Draw A Straight Line

So we did not remain back in the little TC overnite after all. Given that traders have rejected 1700+ twice now, and given the margin of error inherent in drawing the upper and lower limits (which are determined by the mean), and given that we came as close to the upper limit as price was...

Ghost of If You Can Draw A Straight Line

The midpoint of the midpoint? That may be important if traders are preparing for yet another trend change to a higher level. I never thought this little channel would last long, but it sure has made for a profitable three days.

Incidentally, if you want to get deeper into the scientific method than where you are presently, let me know. But if you can keep it simple, that would be best all round. Look this over.

Ghost of If You Can Draw A Straight Line

Today was another good day due to the run off the mean down to the lower limit of the trend channel and a reversal, like yesterday. After that, price rallied back but didn't quite make the mean (6pts to go). After the session, price dropped all the way back to the lower limit of the TC and...

Sorry to do this to you but you're also going to have to define "viable". What's "viable"? A point? Five? If you're talking about rets, you may want to define "viable" as price getting out of the retracement and making a higher swing high, even if that doesn't last (largely because if it doesn't...

    Trading NQ via Price Action

It seems the point of studying "old charts" is being missed entirely, but I've addressed that elsewhere, so I see no benefit in treading again over well-worn ground. Suffice it to say that if one doesn't include the study of old charts in his process, he is going to be spending one hell of a...

New to trading (Sorry if it's not okay to ask).

Also interesting that the ES bounced off that mean within a few ticks Sunday nite, then propelled itself through the top of the range to 56. I wonder if anyone took advantage of that.

Ghost of If You Can Draw A Straight Line

No need to repost all yesterday's charts. We're pretty much in the same place we were yesterday, only higher (again, the endpoints of the lines increase day by day since they are diagonal). We bounced off the lower limit of the channel, then recoiled off the mean. Afterward, price revisited the...

New to trading (Sorry if it's not okay to ask).

There's a lot of "discussion" about edges on ET. And elsewhere. Some think you have to be bonking Lloyd Blankfein's daughter. Some think a bowl of hot oatmeal every morning provides an edge. I have yet to find a definition that beats Mark Douglas': "Your edge begins with the knowledge you gain...

Glad to hear it. The importance of the lines, of course, from the beginning, was to convey the importance of the Law of Supply and Demand, particularly with regard to distinguishing up from down. To a large extent, this objective has been met by those who have been using them for a while and...

New to trading (Sorry if it's not okay to ask).

Yeah, I can go with that. If one's edge disappears simply because he gives it away, he never had much of an edge in the first place. This morning, for example, I pinpointed the level of the 1000 reversal in the NQ two-and-a-half hours before the open. Am I giving this away? Yes. Does it...

    forum on trader Tax topics

Try doing a search of thread titles in Career Trader using "tax*". You'll get 108 hits, 33 of which date from the beginning of 2013. You'll probably be able to eliminate a lot of them just by the titles. Maybe a sub-sub-forum under Career Trader that's just for taxes.
