MBA breeding ground for future white collar criminals

CNBC had a great 4-way discussion last night on this topic hosted by Melissa Francis. Charley Gasparino was the best.....he said: "You can't teach ethics to adults....it's in their upbringing". He was right of course. The prof from Princeton said he shows the handcuff-and-jail videos of...

    Congrats to Schindler!

But Aaron.... this is only going to get worse as the CME/CBOT merger creates one HUGE monopoly. And besides the fees, getting any response for customer service from the CME is already a huge headache...I can't imagine how much worse it's going to get after the merger. Bottomline: we've got some...

why do people complain about IB TWS crashing so much?

Uh...crashing is much different in nature than a service outage. TWS = workstation software service outage = SERVER software (and communications)

    Congrats to Schindler!

While on this "legal" note, is it really true (as someone had posted a few months ago on this thread) that legal and accounting and compliance expenses are a huge hit on your P&L ? It seems to me that there are now many, many hedge fund service firms out there hungry for business.....so that...

What problems are you having with latest TWS?

That's because the problem is SERVER-RELATED. You can upgrade the workstation software till the cows come home and it won't make even a tiny difference. IB must do a better job of monitoring the individual servers in their server farms. This takes sophisticated software and lots of experienced...

why do people complain about IB TWS crashing so much?

Jango - Now that the problem has been repaired, are you still going to hang with IB or did you find an attractive alternative broker ?

    IB API Time

Has anyone noticed that after synching the computer's time that the API shows a time that is about 1 second late ? This has bothered me....and indicates the IB Servers are either delayed or their time is not synched. No response to my post on the IB API forum either.

How can you trade multiple accounts on a single PC using IB's TWS?

OK...uh, this is pretty impressive....do you have a SMS server embedded in your VB app ? Otherwise, how else could you communication via SMS ? Please, I don't want to sound sarcastic, but I think you've got some features here that even Hedge Funds with unlimited resources do not have...

How can you trade multiple accounts on a single PC using IB's TWS?

Thanks for pointing that out. Client ID "0" (zero) is "magic" in the fact that it provides a universal view of the trading activity from any Client ID related to the IB account number. The only downside is that manually placed trades via the TWS Java app are also in the "mix". So, as long as...

TWSLink - Automated Trading with TWS and any Software

Why was XML used ? It's so cumbersome compared to a file-format/comma-delimited approach.

How can you trade multiple accounts on a single PC using IB's TWS?

The fact that you know the advanced languages and STILL are reluctant to port that VB app to them is quite "telling"...i.e. VB was a very good rapid app development language whereas .NET and Java are not. Still, one thing puzzles me...if you are truly autotrading via the API, then you must...

How can you trade multiple accounts on a single PC using IB's TWS?

That's great, but for the benefit of the rest of us, could you tell us some specifics ...i.e. port numbers, client ids, etc in your set-up ? BTW: are you running your own Java or .NET app via the API ?

Question: Linking Tradestation to my Trading software?

Huh ? I was told it was operational...and that was 18 months ago. Was this for TS2000i, TS8 or both ? Technically, it's not that difficult, as there is a SMTP (email) "backdoor" built into Tradestation that can send messages to any socket-based SMTP server. All the trading platform needs to do...

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

Thanks Anton, but are we getting the C# source code for the platform for the $500 ? Or just the run-time ? Regarding the performance issue: You are probably right...once inside of the .NET app environment, performance is about the same. However, you cannot claim that OpenQuant is as fast as a...

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

I'm reposting this as I never received a response. Is this source code C# or VB.NET or both ?

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

This is not surprising. Why would a company with their major source of revenue being a charting and execution platform with scripting, EVER want to provide a robust API so that someone could potentially one-up them with something better ? ESignal remains a strange company with a checkered past.

OpenQuant - SmartQuant's new product for the retail market

I'm a little confused. Is Openquant written in C# with the .NET platform SDK or VB.NET ? Or are there 2 platforms being maintained ? Other than the obvious syntax differences between the languages, are there any other differences like performance for instance ?

Question: Linking Tradestation to my Trading software?

The problem with a lot of the prop firms is that quite frankly they are run by a bunch of guys who act much like gangstas or hoodlums. Hi tech stuff ? - not spoken there. They've got just such a gambling mentality...it permeates everything they do...and it's quite contrary to a systematic approach.

Question: Linking Tradestation to my Trading software?

See Nick Nazarov at Benchmarq Trading in NYC. They built a reliable bridge from Tradestation or Tradestation 2000i and it works. http://www.benchmarqtrading.com/ Otherwise, I have posed this to other prop firms in the past and got nothing more than a "huh ?" or "see our tech guys".
