My Experience at a Prop Firm

Great post. I totally concur. When I was propping 2 years ago, there were 50 workstations and 5 traders.

the relationship between profit of intraday system and day range

Key Details have been omitted : WHAT IS YOUR TRADING TIMEFRAME ? (minutes, hours, days, weeks) ? What is your AVERAGE TIME IN THE TRADE ? WHAT BAR INTERVAL DO YOU USE ? Looking at that chart probably tells the whole story: GAPS aren't friendly towards trend-following approaches....they...

What happens when the credit bubble breaks?

Wrong. Nothing happens till Big Ben makes it happen.

**trading Alert: Russell 2000 Breaking Out***

Great, GREAT analysis. Let's move to Fundamentals, shall we ? Dow at all time highs. These are stocks in a "monopoly" position with low debt and high cash balances. This is MUCH DIFFERENT than Russell 2000 stocks which are mostly highly leveraged and very susceptible to higher interest...

    Trusting your instincts...

ANALYSIS....PARALYSIS. This is common for newbies. For Pros, it's all about instinct,...and reactivity. Think too much.....and you've lost your "edge". Same with pro athletes. Equate trading to professional sports....and you'll be a winner...IF YOU"VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES. Let's see...latest...

    My Brother Blew >$1 Million

Oh, wow, how I loved that movie...it's one of my "top ten"....and is that quote EVER SO RELEVANT here: some make it, some don't....and "that's the way it is" in the land of risk.

    My Brother Blew >$1 Million

Sorry, better re-check your charts.....we are now forming a "double top". Time to think short.

My Experience at a Prop Firm

I seriously doubt you can negotiate a rate like that, even with a good track record and experience. Reason: lower number of traders requires Prop firms to maintain higher rates to offset the lower total volume. Simple economics.

My Experience at a Prop Firm

My prop experience sucks as well. There was little-to-no training, the software platform was disabled to perform sim trading (I discovered that later), and when I began live trading, I was told the platform did not support stop orders of any kind. We had to "cover" each other to go to the...

Please Vote for this IB Feature

Your request is kind of dumb....imagine if everyone had their own scan they wanted to be cataloged ? Instead, the answer is a PROGRAMMABLE scanner with codes and values and logic conditions. That would be the answer for everyone.

What problems are you having with latest TWS?

However, for performance reasons, could I not have TWO instances of TWS running, each with one (or more) ActiveX/Socket API attached clients, and each TWS using a different port ? Example: one API app is running fully automated on one workstation, and the other is running on a separate...

    programming language

Great advice. I might add: learn about strategies....break-out, trend-following, candlestick pattern, mean-reversion, etc, etc. Most important: money management/bet-sizing.

What problems are you having with latest TWS?

This indicates SERVER-RELATED problems...which you cannot control....neither thru upgrading or downgrading. They indicate that these problems have been resolved....and were hardware-related. Keep us posted of your experience moving forward from today. All SHOULD be well.

What problems are you having with latest TWS?

This doesn't jive with what the API forum has been telling me. They've been saying if I want separate instances, say of Excel, one running a certain set of stocks, and another instance of Excel running futures, that each instance should be logging on with the same account, but different PORTS...

What problems are you having with latest TWS?

Believe it or not, the above is a little bit SCARY. Are you guys trialing/beta-testing this stuff BEFORE rollout ? I mean, do you have a hard-core group of users/advocates who will spend the time trying your new releases before the masses get them ?

What problems are you having with latest TWS?

This is good work, but two things: 1) what steps has IB technical management taken to insure this won't happen (or a similar hardware issue) in the future ? 2) I was told two (or more) copies of TWS can exist on the same machine (or network) as long as the port numbers were different. Has...

How long it take IB to IPO

No listen...he could be right. IB's recent server problems have many, many of their customers quite unhappy....and the timing of this could not be worse. IB, of course, is staying "mum" on any of the details....but I have a friend who just couldn't take the "pink-outs" any more, especially when...
