Making a living just trading forex?

Polls like this are misleading because one could argue that the type of person who trades forex for a living isn't a poll-taker. Or vice-versa.

"Video never to be shown again" from "Flight 93 never before seen video"

The only truly solid pieces on a jet are the engines. They ended up buried a few feet down. Everything else was run through the shredder.

"Video never to be shown again" from "Flight 93 never before seen video"

I was an eyewitness to a twin engine plane crash once (6 seater). The guy lost one engine and couldn't control it anymore. He left debris over a mile area because every time he dove and recovered another chunk of plane peeled off (like the doors). Musta been shittin his pants trying fly the...

"Video never to be shown again" from "Flight 93 never before seen video"

Guys, you don't seem to realize just how fragile an airplane really is. There really isn't much too them. The things are made almost entirely of aluminum including the longitudinal beams and ribs. The skin is thin enough for a linebacker to punch a hole through with his fist. Now imagine...

    Borrowing from 401k?

Yup, I did that on my last job move. Best thing I ever did. I liquidated the whole mess and rolled it into a traditional IRA at InteractiveBrokers.

    Borrowing from 401k?

The rules for what you can do with a 401K are on the IRS web site. If you outright withdraw it, you pay the tax plus a penalty. You can borrow up to 50% or $50,000 whichever is smaller but you have to pay it back on a certain schedule. It can be borrowed for anything.

Can anybody recommend a decent health insurer

That's right. If you're an engineer (lots of 'em around here) join one of the professional societies. They can get you cheap term life, long term disability and health insurance. I'm an EE and get my life and LTD through IEEE(.org) IEEE membership is a pittance at $130/year plus you get a...

Real Estate Nirvana: I Love You Mr. Subprime

That's how Donald Trump's dad made his fortune, from what I understand. He kept low-bidding properties no one wanted.

    Borrowing from 401k?

I'm sorry. I am a simple person. I borrow as little money as possible, from myself or anyone else. The semantics of borrowing from yourself, paying interest to yourself, etc is specious at best. If you need money, work and save. Only spend money you have. That's all. This sounds very...

    Borrowing from 401k?

I just went to my Fidelity 401K web account and looked to see what the loan terms are. You can borrow up to 50% and the rate quoted for me was 9.25% Even though you're paying the interest to yourself, it's still a bit steep in my opinion. Also, the max is 50% or $50,000, whichever is smaller.

    Borrowing from 401k?

When you used the phrase "virtually guaranteed" I immediately cringed. Don't raid your 401K! Work and save to build up some trading capital. Don't spend your future. Doing this is akin to refinancing with a sub-prime zero-down mortgage. It seems like a good idea on the surface but is...

American middle class faces impossible savings task

When my wife and I bought our current house in 99 we went for a 15 year fixed. I am sooooooooo glad we're actually looking at having the mofo paid off in another few years. It was tough at first since the payments would have been significantly lower with a 30. But after a couple of years my...

    Some observations on scalping Crude

I've never traded crude (CL), but out of curiosity I pulled it up on my IB screen. Why is it that the APR07 is traded on "ONE" and appears to not be trading? The MAY and JUN contracts appear to be trading actively on NYMEX. Do I understand correctly that QM is the mini for crude? Sorry...
