Help me to choose the right data provider

In spite of the "barrier" you speak of, IB is what you're looking for in my opinion. There is backfill data and realtime quote data. The realtime data isn't tick data, just so you know, but it does come several times/second. Like you I'm a programmer which is part of what drew me to IB...

    Newsstriike???

R is for registered, U is for unregistered. I'll never complain about something that's free. They announced in a very timely fashion for the Fed announcement yesterday. The guy's "Joisey" accent is a bit rough sometimes.

Latest time a trade today can be busted?

Sorry guys, I'm very naive. What kind of trade are y'all talking about that might be "busted?"

    QuoteTraker backfill from IB

I upgraded to the latest and greatest from the quotetracker.com web site and the 1 hour gap was fixed.

    Help from experienced persons please...

*sigh* you entered a real position without knowing how to exit? Please tell me this is just paper trading with no real money.

    Stocks are Easy

I know, that's just the line of reasoning that my family and friends understand. Anything about making money when stocks go down or sideways sounds unfair/illogical to them.

    Stocks are Easy

I agree. If you're a long-only investor, using options instead of buying shares is less risky. Why? Because your risk is *exactly* limited to the purchase price of the option (call in this case). If you're long a stock with a, say, 10% stop what if the stock gaps down 20% pre-open. You're...

can I bacfill real tick by tick data from IB tws?

QuoteTracker will show this raw IB data in tick format if you wish, or as "normal" time-sliced bar data. As others have pointed out, this data isn't true tick data, so just be cautious. Real tick data will cost ya.

    Most effective pre-market screener?

Unless you're referring to something else, I use the "market scanner" page available from Interactive Brokers for this. I like screening for "Top % Gainers" every day for targets of opportunity. I filter for US stocks > $1 and < $100 and > 50,000 avg volume. For instance, as of this...

can I bacfill real tick by tick data from IB tws?

I use the IB data to backfill my charts in the QuoteTracker tool. You can then save the backfill data from within QuoteTracker to a .csv file.

15-20% interest rate in early 80's

LOL you either meant "warehousing" or "whorehousing" I'm not sure which, though both would be appropriate.

The internet needs to be censored

LOL good luck enforcing that. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that 95% of the nasties out there aren't on web sites. They're on P2P (file sharing) networks like Gnutella and eDonkey. When people exchange data peer to peer it's almost impossible to detect or stop.

    Moving offshore

Sounds tremendously difficult to enforce if you never come back to US soil. And I really doubt foreign govts would bother lifting a finger to enforce US tax law.

Why do you guys trade Currency?

The smell of money is an aphrodisiac, eh? I of course wouldn't know.

    Moving offshore

Hey here's a hypothetical question about IRAs. What happens if I move off-shore and give up my US citizenship and take my tax-deferred IRA with me? Do I still owe Uncle Sam anything when I start to withdraw from it? In fact, can't I just pull the money out and do what I want with it...

Why do you guys trade Currency?

Coming from US equities markets, I like being able to find something that's trending while the stock market chops. There's always a trending market somewhere and I like the idea of having broad horizons in which to search for them. US stocks/indices aren't the only game in town.
